PERIKATAN Nasional’s (PN) chances of winning 33 seats in the Selangor state legislative assembly are slim, said Universiti Utara Malaysia Politics and International Relations senior lecturer Prof Dr Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani.

“Selangor is well governed and in his view, the people in the state seem to like the current state government,” Sinar Ahad reported him as saying.

According to him, Pakatan Harapan (PH) governs the state well and the people like them and are comfortable with PH. So when they are already comfortable, it will be difficult to change (the government).

Prof Mohd added that PN does not have much chance even if they adopt the spirit of Muafakat Nasional (MN) in the upcoming state election.

Besides PN platform, Bersatu and PAS are also part of the MN. He said the spirit of the MN is perceived as absent in the state.

Prof Mohd was commenting on Selangor UMNO chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar’s recent statement on PN’s potential to secure 33 seats in the Selangor state assembly, which has generated enthusiasm and excitement among the party’s supporters.

Meanwhile, Noh noted that PN could win more seats in Selangor, especially with Selangor being a stronghold for Malay voters.

He pointed out that the same situation may prevail in other PH-run states, such as Penang and Negri Sembilan where the spirit of the MN is not really existent.

However, in an attempt to boost their chances in the upcoming state elections, the PAS Women’s Wing or Dewan Muslimat PAS has called on UMNO to unite with the PN under the banner of Islamic and Malay unity.

They are emphasising the importance of unity for the Muslim community.

PAS Women’s Wing leader Nuridah Mohd Salleh stated that six months is sufficient for UMNO under the “big tent” that appeared beautiful on the outside but was filled with filth on the inside.
