KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) just needs to wait for the “tables to turn by themselves” during the state election as the federal unity government will turn on its own incompetent components, Selangor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia reportedly said,
Its chapter chief Datuk Abdul Rashid Ansari was quoted by Utusan Malaysia saying that the upcoming state elections will give the parties in the current government a chance to evaluate their weak links, while PN itself does not have to do anything to improve its situation.
“We don’t need to do anything, just wait for the tables to turn by themselves. Because they will surely be dissatisfied with any party that fails to contribute to the victory in the upcoming state election.
“So, the positive support towards us will make it easy for the unity government to identify which parties are truly functioning or otherwise,” he reportedly said.
Abdul Rashid also reportedly said that Umno is obviously the weakest link among the federal coalition members, claiming its role is solely to attract Malay voters which he said have moved away from supporting Pakatan Harapan.
However, he claimed that Umno members themselves were dissatisfied with the party due to having to cooperate with DAP, and the recent controversy over the term “Allah”.
“The issue of ‘Allah’ has brought anger in the public, and it was also a topic in Friday sermons last week. Many are questioning why Umno is keeping quiet over the matter.
“Record also showed that Umno has lost support from the Malays and many have changed their support to PN. The momentum is still the same,” he claimed.
He was also quoted as saying that he had already finalised the list of Selangor Bersatu candidates for the state election, and will submit the list to his superiors this week.
In March, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) state assemblymen were now part of the state government until its term ends in June.
BN has five state seats in Selangor. In comparison, Bersatu has four seats in the state assembly while PAS has one seat.
The Selangor state assembly is set to dissolve automatically on June 25 if there is no request to dissolve it earlier.
