BINTULU, June 10 — Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing today retained the post of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president uncontested for another three-year term at its triennial general assembly (TGA).

Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP, has held the post since 2016.

The post of deputy president was won uncontested by Tasik Biru State Assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep after Marudi state assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil withdrew his candidacy.

Jinep, who is also the state deputy of transport, replaced former Mas Gading MP Datuk Anthony Nogeh who did not seek re-election for the post.

When contacted by Malay Mail, Penguang said he initially wanted to go for the post of deputy president, but after taking all views into consideration, he decided to give way to Jinep.

“Whether we like it or not, during the campaign for the post, we would certainly say some things against each other.

“I don’t want such things to happen to the party, and so, I put the party’s interests first and I want to maintain unity in the party,” he said.

He said there is no point in fighting for the post as it will affect the stability of PDP as it is a small party.

“I also do not want to be labelled as a person responsible for any break-up of the party,” he said.

He also declined to hold the post of secretary-general but accepted the post of senior vice-president (I) of PDP.

Apart from Penguang, who is also the state deputy of public health, housing and local government, Meluan State Assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin was elected as the senior vice-president (II).

The posts of vice-presidents went to Alexander Asing Sadai, Krian state assemblyman Friday Belik and Roland Ting Hua Sing.

Baram MP Datuk Anyi Ngau was elected as secretary-general and Joshua Ting Fu Ying, the information chief.

The TGA also elected 14 other ordinary supreme council members of the party.

A total of 600 delegates attended the three-day TGA.

The post of the Youth chief was won by David Yeo Ang Lim and Women chief Angnes Jonep.
