PH lags while PAS thrives on TikTok ahead of state elections

WITH the state elections only weeks away amid news reports that Penang will dissolve its state assembly on June 28, PAS which is under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition is thriving on TikTok.
 
 
Now, TikTok is the medium blamed by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership for the strong showing of the ‘green wave’ during the 15th General Elections (GE15) in November last year.
 
Six months after the massive haul of 49 seats by the PAS last year, the TikTok scene is still dominated by the PN-PAS.
 
A Twitter influencer who backs the PH government said the situation is not getting any better for PH on Tiktok, a viral machine used for the political gains of the opposition in Malaysia. 
 
User @lady_bugg11 wrote the following and it gives us an idea of the strength of the PAS on the video platform.

The user said that to win the state elections (PRN), the parties must utilise TikTok. She said it is, “A free propaganda and information tool,” 
 
The user also posted an image alongside demonstrating her comments.
 
“In the image below, the four main parties through the Youth wing have their own TikTok accounts. In this regard, PAS Youth is more organised and has the most followers (Over 81,000).
 
“UMNO Youth with 6154 followers at the time of writing, AMK with 1600 followers.
 
“The rival of Pas Youth who is strong and ‘crowing’ like tomorrow is the end of the world is Amanah Youth. There are 14 followers without any posts or videos. 14 compared to 81k is like the Badr War.”
 
Moreover, we know that the young voters veered towards PN in the 15th General Election. Even the massive figure of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad failed to sustain the tide.
 
The youngsters in the more rural states rallied for former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s coalition, ditching Dr Mahathir who lost his deposit. Hence, the post by the influencer on Twitter should not be taken lightly by the ruling coalition, particularly by the PKR, Amanah and DAP. – June 10, 2023
