MELAKA: Melaka police have initiated an investigation into a tiff between a 45-year-old customer and a teen crew leader of a fast food restaurant at Ayer Keroh here over chilli sauce sachets.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said an investigation paper had been opened under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

"We are still waiting to record the statement of the customer on the report lodged by the 19-year-old female crew leader on Tuesday (Sept 26) at the Ayer Keroh police station," he said on Wednesday (Sept 27).

ACP Christopher Patit said that based on the police report the team leader claimed the customer was abusive after he voluntarily paid for 10 sachets of the sauce between 10pm to 11pm on Sept 22.

He said the team leader claimed the customer wanted to purchase the sachets although the outlet had offered it without any charges before an argument sparked between the two.

"The team leader was told to lodge a police report by her management after the customer recorded the argument and also meant for her safety," he said.

ACP Christopher Patit said a preliminary probe into the report showed that there were two versions of the claims made by the customer and the team leader.

He said the male customer claimed that he was forced to pay for the sachets while the team leader alleged that the man offered to pay for the items despite being told that the sauces were complimentary with food ordered at the outlet.

ACP Christopher Patit said his investigation team also discovered that the outlet was issued a notice of compound by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, a few days ago.

He said the ministry issued the notice after the outlet failed to display the price before charging the customer for the sachets.

ACP Christopher Patit said the customer also uploaded the receipt of payment for the sachets to his Facebook account.

"We expect to conclude the investigation once the statement from the customer has been recorded," he added.
