KUALA LUMPUR: The Local Government Development Ministry has successfully implemented 4,900 projects within the one-year administration of the Madani government, the highest number it ever recorded.

Its minister Nga Kor Ming said these projects included upgrading markets and public toilets, repairing community halls and building affordable homes.

He said 301 abandoned projects valued at RM28.8bil and involving 37,000 homebuyers were successfully rescued as a result of the setting up of a special task force to monitor the issue nationwide.

Nga was speaking during the Madani Government One Year Anniversary Programme on the Selamat Pagi Malaysia show broadcast by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) yesterday.

The Minister said the ministry also focused on affordable housing projects, targeting the completion of 9,000 units of Pr1ma homes.

“At the beginning of the year, the ministry set a target to build 4,000 units of people-friendly homes. But I believe that by next month, we will be able to complete 5,025 units, which is 25% more than the target,” he said.

The ministry, said Nga, had also helped create 16,294 entrepreneurs comprising single mothers and the B40 through the Urban Community Economic Empowerment Programme.

At the same time, the ministry, he said, had also eliminated 1,618 illegal dumpsites nationwide this year through the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp).
