ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor government will be giving a 30% rebate for assessment tax to five local councils next year to help ease the burden on the people in the state, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

The Johor Mentri Besar said there are 807,441 property owners in the five local councils, and 326,720 of them, or 40.4%, are unaffected by the tax increase.

“I am committed to reviewing and studying this matter with the Johor exco and the local councils involved.

“As a government that hears and understands the issues that the people are going through, the government has decided to give a 30% rebate or discount for all property owners affected by the new assessment tax in 2024.

“I hope that this discount will be able to ease the taxpayer's burden in these five local councils,” he said during his winding-up speech at the state assembly held at Bangunan Sultan Ismail, Kota Iskandar, on Sunday (Dec 3).

Five local councils in Johor are revising the assessment, which takes effect on Jan 1, 2024.

The local councils are Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG), Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), Johor Baru City Council (MBJB), Kluang Municipal Council (MPK), and Pengerang Municipal Council (MPP).
