KOTA BARU: The Pas-led state government is now ready to amend the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Control Enactment 1998, almost 30 years after being enforced in the state.

Kelantan Local Government, Housing, Health, and Environment Committee chairman Hilmi Abdullah said the draft for the new version of the enactment is being finalised.

He said the state government is expected to table the new enactment in the next state assembly sitting.

"The current enactment has been enforced and gazetted in Kelantan for almost 30 years and it has never been amended.

"The amount of the fine and the jail sentence for offenders who have breached the enactment have not increased for many years.

"A new clause needs to be added on in the enactment to adapt to the current situation especially related to the interpretation of entertainment and ticket sales activities, viewing and entertainment promotions online.

"Therefore, we plan to create a new entertainment enactment for the state," he said.

Hilmi said details on the matter would be given by deputy menteri besar, who is the chairman for the new enactment.

The Kelantan government has been criticised by many quarters for not providing entertainment for locals since Pas became the state government in the 1990s.

Some locals have accepted this, but many especially young people are against this rule.
