PUTRAJAYA: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has set up an "online ambassador" team to counter slander and disseminate authentic information, says Nga Kor Ming.

The minister said 200 ministry staff had been selected as "online ambassadors" for the Madani government.

"The Virtual Touch initiative was created to help the government spread authentic information and its policies more effectively," he said after the launch of the ministry's Virtual Touch Workshop on Thursday (June 13).

The purpose of this team, he added, was not only to disseminate authentic information and protect the public from slander but also to use language and approaches that were easier for the public to understand.

"This aims to convey the people-friendly policies introduced by the Madani government.

"In this digital era, social media plays an important role in delivering information. Short videos, live broadcasts, and various platforms can be used as ways to streamline government info so that the public stands firm together in upholding the aspirations of Malaysia Madani," he said, encouraging members of the ministry's online ambassador team to be creative when producing interesting content.

"The sky is the limit," said Nga when asked about the freedom of cyber movement in delivering information.

He said with creativity, true information could be delivered more effectively as well as attract the community's attention.

Citing Malaysia's rise in the Global Peace Index ranking to be the 10th most peaceful country in the world and the third in Asia-Pacific, Nga said among the factors were the inclusive policies of the Madani government, the celebration of diversity and the country's caring ways.

"Malaysia's international profile is rising. Stability and diversity are our country's assets. Unity in diversity is our way of life. Let us always maintain and defend the cultural harmony of a multi-racial society in our beloved country," he said.

Nga also announced that the federal government had in a Cabinet meeting agreed and approved the proposal to establish the Gedong District Council in Sarawak.

The Gedong District Council would administer the entire Gedong district in line with the decision of the Sarawak Government, which had implemented the redelineation of the new administrative area of the Gedong district effective March 1, 2022, he said.

Currently, Gedong district is located within the administrative area of Simunjan District Council.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg is the Gedong assemblyman.

"With the Cabinet's approval to establish the Gedong District Council, our country now has 156 local authorities.

"It is also hoped that this will assist the government in the implementation of various projects and programmes in the Samarahan division as agreed upon under the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency.

"It is also expected to further stimulate the socioeconomic growth of the people and the development in the Gedong district in particular," he said.
