KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 14): Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, the operator of rail services including Light Rail Transit (LRT) networks, the KL Monorail and Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) lines, said on Wednesday it will be adding 300 new vans under its demand responsive transit (DRT) operations in the Klang Valley and Penang by December.

The increase in the number of vans - which supports the existing Rapid Bus service and acts as the first last-mile connectivity with Rapid KL rail services - is to accommodate the rising demand for the Rapid DRT service, said Prasarana.

“Since its introduction in May 2023 with just one route and one van, the Rapid DRT service in the Klang Valley has expanded to nine routes with 18 vans,” Prasarana president and group chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah told reporters.

“The service has recorded an average increase in passengers of 32%, with a total of 126,656 users as of July 31, 2024,” he said.
