KUALA LUMPUR: A mapping of utilities and study of soil structure spanning the entire city will be conducted as part of the search-and-recovery operation on Jalan Masjid India.

This was following the authorities' decision to call off the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation to locate G. Vijaya Lakshmi, 48, who fell into a sinkhole on the street on Aug 23.

"Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) will conduct utility mapping and soil structural integrity study of Kuala Lumpur," said Federal Territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa in a press conference today.

She said the affected area at Jalan Masjid India would be reconstructed.

"We have identified, from the entrance gate - all the way - to the Mydin shopping centre, around 100 metres (for reconstruction).

"We will ensure the area is not disturbed by the public," Zaliha said.

She said the Kuala Lumpur City Hall now requires geotechnical report for new development applications.

She said there would also be engagement with affected businesses to assist them in resuming commercial activities.

She said a note would be submitted to the Cabinet and all authorities involved in the SAR would give input on the full report.

She reminded the public to only obtain verified information from the authorities.

Last night, efforts to locate the victim at the site of the sinkhole India yielded no results, despite the detection of an anomalous object one meter underground using Ground Penetrating Radar.

Over 115 personnel from various agencies were seen at the site since this morning participating in the operation, which is on its the ninth day.
