KUALA LUMPUR: Developers will be required to submit geotechnical reports for new projects in Kuala Lumpur, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

The emergence of two sinkholes in Jalan Masjid India recently raised public concerns after a tourist fell into an eight-meter deep hole on Aug 23.

"DBKL has stated (issued a directive) that any new developments will require a geotechnical report," Zaliha said at a press conference today.

A geotechnical report is a detailed study of the underground conditions where a construction is planned.

The search and rescue (SAR) efforts to locate G. Vijaya Lakshmi, 48, from India were called off, with the operation now focused on search-and-recovery instead.

She said the authorities would conduct mapping of utilities and study of soil structure spanning the entire city as part of the operation.
