NIBONG TEBAL: The younger generation in Malaysia should concentrate on advancing technology instead of focusing along racial lines, says Steven Sim Chee Keong.

"I would rather see our Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan, Orang Asli children all become obsessed with learning to become scientists," he said in his speech during the launch of Yes! Rock The School Mega Edisi Penang 2024 at Universiti Sains Malaysia (UMS) engineering campus here on Monday (Sept 9).

Sim said to embrace technology, one must become mathematicians and computer experts to solve the most challenging technological problems of the time, such as how to make cars fly.

He said Malaysia had experienced racial conflict in 1969, the same year man first landed on the moon.

He said it was important for the younger generation now to improve their knowledge and skills, especially in science and technology for their future.

The two-day programme, which was officiated by Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, involved 500 secondary students from 34 schools in Penang.

It also involved 34 teachers and 127 guidance counsellors from schools across Penang.

The programme is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to make informed career decisions and help them develop the competencies required to thrive in a rapidly changing job market.
