KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 13): The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) announced on Friday the appointment of Datu Wong Hee Sieng as a new member of the commission effective Aug 16.
He succeeds Datuk Alice Jawan Empaling, who announced her intention to step down on June 13, after retiring from her position as the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Sarawak, according to Mavcom in a statement.
Wong, who since June 5 serves as the permanent secretary of the ministry, has over three decades of experience in public administration, including as the chairman of the Sarawak Buoys and Light Board, and executive chairman of the Sarawak Road Safety Council.
He was welcomed by Mavcom executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kasim, who also commented on the departing chief operating officer, Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, whose contract ends on Saturday, Sept 14.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to Raja Azmi for four years of dedicated service to Mavcom.
"Throughout his tenure, Raja Azmi has demonstrated exceptional strategic insight and professionalism, navigating the commission through significant industry challenges,” he said.
Mavcom is an independent body set up on March 1, 2016, under the Malaysian Aviation Commission Act 2015, to regulate economic and commercial matters relating to civil aviation.
