PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong introduces Malaysia’s business environment to Chinese companies during his visit there.

The MCA president, who was in China to attend the "Third Global Digital Trade Expo" in Hangzhou, conducted a site inspection at the Singapore-Hangzhou Science and Technology Park and Jianghai City construction site in the Qiantang District.

He also held discussions with several key officials, including Deputy Director of the Qiantang (New) District Management Committee Li Jun, First Principal Staff Member of the Bureau of Foreign Economic Cooperation under the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce Tang Haofeng, and Secretary-General of the Zhejiang Provincial Chamber of Foreign Contractors He Yun.

“With a notable rise in Chinese companies expanding abroad, I introduced Malaysia’s business environment, policies, and the upcoming Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JSSEZ),” said Dr Wee on his Facebook page on Friday (Sept 27).

He also highlighted the contributions of institutions founded by the MCA, including the University of Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Technology and Management (TAR UMT), and VTAR, which he said were “providing talents for the market.”

Dr Wee expressed his hope that Malaysia could become a key destination for Chinese companies looking to expand internationally.

During his visit, he was also briefed on the Qiantang District’s efforts to develop the "Dongbu Bay New City," "Jianghai City," and "High-Speed Rail New City," projects aimed at creating a modern, international industrial city.

“Qiantang District is centrally located in Hangzhou and serves as a key economic, technological, and free trade zone,” he said, noting that Hangzhou, alongside cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, is one of China’s major urban hubs.

“Their extensive experience in driving industrial development offers valuable insights for Malaysia to learn from,” Dr Wee added.

Accompanying him in the discussions was Datuk Lim Ban Hong, the Melaka Chief Minister’s Investment Advisor.
