KUALA LUMPUR: The torrential downpour during rush hour today caused major traffic jams as several roads in the city were submerged in flood water.

Pictures and videos of cars stuck in flood waters were widely shared on social media and WhatsApp.

One picture showed Bulatan Dato On , headed towards Jalan Parlimen, flooded with muddy water.

The road headed to the Parliament building was also flooded today, leading to the Dewan Rakyat sitting being delayed as some members of parliament were stuck in traffic.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department this morning issued a thunderstorm warning for eight states including Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur.

In a post on its Facebook page, it said Penang, Selangor and Melaka, with Bentong and Rompin in Pahang, were forecast to experience thunderstorms until 1pm today.
