ISKANDAR PUTERI: Barisan Nasional is currently weighing the possibility of forming an alliance with Pakatan Harapan for the next Johor state election, similar to the collaboration already established for the Sabah state election.

Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that a decision on the matter would be announced when the time was right.

“I will make an announcement (regarding the Barisan-Pakatan cooperation) when the time comes,” he told reporters after opening Season 14 of the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) Malaysia at the Educity Sports Complex here on Sunday (Nov 3).

Earlier, Bernama reported Ahmad Zahid saying that he has reasserted that the coalition would cooperate with Pakatan in the upcoming Sabah state polls.

The Sabah state assembly is due to be dissolved by October next year and polls must be held within 60 days of dissolution.

He assured that there would be no overlap of seats between the two coalitions and that they would use their respective logos.

"We will apply the same formula for seat distribution and collaboration with other coalitions, such as Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS),” he said.

"We are open to negotiations, but we won't leave the door open too widely. We are currently holding consultations with all leaders of the component parties,” he added.

He also stressed that any statements representing Barisan and Pakatan must come from the coalition leaders, not from individual party leaders.
