A whistleblower is intensifying efforts to expose alleged incriminating actions by several state assemblypersons, claiming to hold video evidence that could implicate top state leaders.

In an interview with Malaysiakini he expressed deep concerns for his safety, fearing political and personal backlash for challenging highly influential figures.

As a precaution, he is requesting full protection prior to filing an official report with the MACC. While the MACC was briefed last month, details of the implicated politicians’ state remain undisclosed.

“I am afraid. When it concerns politicians, even walls have ears,” he added, underscoring his apprehension.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed that a whistleblower linked to the assemblypersons’ bribery case met senior MACC officers on Oct 30, where a lawyer played a 17-second audio clip featuring a conversation about money.

Azam emphasised the need for the whistleblower to file a formal report to activate protection under the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010.

He explained that legal protection requires the disclosure of detailed information about the misconduct.

MACC cannot offer immunity without a formal complaint and full details of the alleged wrongdoing, making it too early to provide protection at this stage.

On the other hand, the Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil urged the whistleblower to file a report with the MACC, assuring protection under the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010.

Fahmi emphasised that the Act mandates confidentiality for whistleblowers, including concealing their identity and information provided.

His remarks follow reports of eight videos showing assemblypersons allegedly discussing large bribe sums.

Reports say the whistleblower seeks legal protection before formally submitting the evidence to MACC, which would enable a full investigation. —Nov 10, 2024
