KUALA LUMPUR: A PAS leader has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to take immediate action regarding an audio recording allegedly implicating several assemblymen in bribery.

In a statement today, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the MACC has both the capacity and legal obligation to act swiftly, even in the absence of an official complaint.

"The MACC should take proactive steps in investigating this matter.

"It is not enough to wait for a formal report to be filed.

"The commission must initiate investigations based on the information already in the public domain," he said.

He also called for a transparent, fair, and comprehensive investigation, urging that no time be wasted in addressing the matter.

"Prompt action is needed to show that the MACC is serious in its commitment to combating corruption, which harms public welfare and damages the nation's reputation globally."

Fadhli urged all parties to avoid spreading unfounded speculation until the investigation is concluded.

He also reiterated Pas' stance against corruption and its commitment to advocating for clean politics.

"Let the authorities conduct their investigation professionally and thoroughly.

"We are confident that the truth will emerge from this process."

"Anyone found guilty of such immoral conduct must face legal consequences, regardless of their background or position," he said.

A news portal recently reported that several assemblymen have been caught on tape discussing bribes in exchange for obtaining project licences in a state.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki yesterday said the graft busters have yet to receive a report on the matter, though the whistleblower's lawyer has met with MACC officers.
