Dato’ Thong had worked in the financial services industry since 1979. He was an Executive Director of Standard Chartered Merchant Bank Asia in Singapore and Head of its corporate finance division. He was the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Insas Berhad from 10 March 1993 until 29 November 2004. He was subsequently reappointed to the Board of Insas Berhad on 28 February 2007 and as the Chief Executive Officer on 30 January 2009.
