Mr. Yap Seng Chong holds a Bachelor of Accounting from University of Malaya. He is also a member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr Yap's career with Ernst & Young (EY) spanned 35 years, two of which were with the London office, providing various types of assurance and business advisory services. He had previously held positions in EY as Head of Assurance practice, Professional Practice Director and ASEAN Regional and Country Independence Leader before his retirement in 2021.
When he was a MIA Council member, he had served as Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, Member of the Accounting and Auditing Standards Board, Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee and Member of the Public Practice Committee. Mr. Yap was also a member of the Interpretation Committee of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board.
He currently serves as a Board member and Chairman of the Risk and Audit Committee of Malaysia Smelting Corporation Berhad, a company listed on the Main market of Bursa Malaysia and secondarily on Singapore Stock Exchange. He is also a Board member and a member of the Audit Committee of United Plantations Berhad, a company listed on the Main Market of Bursa.
