Datu Sarudu Bin Hoklai graduated from Universiti kebangsaan Malaysia with an honors degree in Social Science and Humanities in 1979. In 1998, Datu further his studies and completed his Master of Business Administration from Ohio University, United State of America.
He started his career as Sarawak Administrative officer in the various district offices in Sarawak from 1980 to 1999 and subsequently served as the Resident of Samarahan and Mukah District from 1999 to 2006.
Datu was later appointed Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism and Urban Development Sarawak and also served as the Human Resource Management Director at the Chief Minister Office, Sarawak.
In 2010, Datu was appointed General Manager of Sarawak Timber Industrial Development Corporation (STIDC) and helms STIDC until his retirement in 2018.
