B.Sc. Forestry at Adelaide University and a Diploma in Forestry from Australian Forestry School, Canberra in 1964. Honorary Doctorate Degree from University Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1992 and University of Aberdeen in 1993.
Working Experience
He was the Director of the Forest Research Institute in Kepong since 1977 and was later appointed the First Director- General of Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM). In 1985, he was President of the lnternational Union of Forestry Research Organisations (IUFRO), the first President from a developing country in the 100 years history of this organisation. His other international commitments include being a member of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Consultative Group on International Agriculture Research (CGIAR), member of a three main review mission of the Tropical Forestry Action Plan, member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Co-Chairperson of the lnternational Network on Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) and Chairman of the World Conservation Union (formerly IUCM) Sustainable Use Initiative for the East Asia Region. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of Minho on 4 December 1995.
