A qualified chartered accountant, Ms Foong holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Business Administration from University of Melbourne and Monash University, Australia respectively.
Working Experience
Ms Foong has over 35 years of experience in banking, management consulting and accounting. She graduated from University of Melbourne, Australia in 1980 with a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce (majoring in Accounting and Economics), and started her career as an auditor at KPMG
Singapore in 1981. In 1983, she relocated to Australia to pursue her Masters in Business Administration (majoring in Finance) at Monash University and remained in Australia for another nine years to acquire skills in accounting, finance, taxation and auditing at various esteemed organisations which included PricewaterhouseCoopers, J.P. Morgan, HSBC as well as the ANZ Banking Group. During which time, she obtained her professional qualification as a Chartered Accountant from Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
Ms Foong returned to Malaysia in 1992, and joined Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) in 1993. In the course of her impressive career of 19 years at SCB, Ms Foong rose up the ranks from the position of Senior Manager of Finance and Planning to various leadership positions, including Group Head of Credit Operations,
Head of Sales for Corporate Banking HK,
Chief Operating Officer for Wholesale Banking and Chief Financial Officer of SCB Malaysia. She served as Chief Executive Officer of SCB Lebanon from 2008 to 2012. Upon her return to Malaysia under the Talentcorp Returning Expert programme in 2013, Ms Foong was appointed to the position of Chief Financial Officer of Hong Leong Bank Berhad, where she served for six years up to her retirement in June 2019.
Ms Foong currently serves on the Industry Advisory Board of Monash University Malaysia, and is a mentor in the Malaysia Australia Business Council's mentor-mentee programme. She was also a recipient of the 'Most Inspiring Woman' in the 'Great Women of Our Time' awards from the Malaysian Women's Weekly Magazine in 2007.
