Ancom continues turnaround in 4Q with RM3.89m net profit

KUALA LUMPUR (July 27): Ancom Bhd continued its financial turnaround with a net profit of RM3.89 million in its fourth quarter ended May 31, 2017 (4QFY17), compared with a net loss of RM5.19 million in 4QFY16, due to higher revenue from its agricultural and industrial chemicals sector and media segment.

Quarterly revenue was up 28.23% at RM477.48 million, compared with RM372.35 million previously, the group said in a filing with the stock exchange today.

The agricultural and industrial chemicals segment’s revenue contribution almost doubled to RM400 million, on improved average selling prices and higher volume sold.

Meanwhile, its media division recorded a segmental profit of RM1.9 million, compared with a loss of RM7.1 million a year ago, on higher revenue and lower operating costs.

The logistics and polymer divisions also reported higher segmental profits.

However, the group’s investment holdings business reported a higher segmental loss of RM11.6 million, due to corporate expenses incurred in the investment holding company.

For the full FY17, Ancom posted a net profit of RM17.16 million, compared with a net loss of RM6.99 million a year ago, as revenue climbed 12.6% to RM1.7 billion, from RM1.51 billion.

Going forward, Ancom raised concerns on the sustainability of global demand in its agricultural and industrial chemical, and polymer divisions, despite better results posted from both segments throughout the year.

The pace of recovery has been slower than expected,” the group said.

However, the media segment had shown resilience and is expected to continue performing satisfactorily, Ancom said.

Shares in Ancom closed up 1 sen or 1.26% at 80.5 sen today, with 1.84 million shares traded. The group has a market capitalisation of RM176.26 million.
