Corporate: The tide turns for Reach Energys proposed QA
Some 117.87 million shares or a 9.22% stake in Reach Energy Bhd changed hands last Thursday for a total of RM89.58 million or 76 sen per share.
This off-market transaction has turned the spotlight on the oil and gas special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), which will be holding its extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on Nov 4 — less than two weeks away — to obtain shareholders' approval for its proposed qualifying asset (QA).
The Edge learnt that MTD Capital Bhd, which is already a shareholder, is the buyer of the Reach Energy shares.
Eyebrows were raised not only over the size of the block but also the transaction price — at 76 sen, it was 6.3% higher than the stock's closing price of 71.5 sen last Thursday.
The premium to the market price could be an indication that an investor or investors keen on the oil assets in Kazakhstan could be emerging in Reach Energy, which should augur well for the proposed QA
