well at the end of the day, investors need to ask upon purchasing, what we get in return? For a company that seems to be growing quite rapidly ( > 20 % for the past 3Q alone), a PE of 8 seems to be cheap. Padini is hardly growing and is getting a PE of more than 11. Don't forget that they are on track to hit Rm1 billion in revenues this financial year. Will this continue? Nike targeted US$50 billion in revenues by 2020 and this year, Nike has grown their global garment segment by 9% for 3Q this year alone. Don't forget all the sports deals they have been making as well. Also consider the dividends that you will be getting. This company has consistently paid out 30-35% of net profits as dividends since 2007. Current dividend yield is 4.3% which is more than what FD can offer you. What happens when dividend grows according to net profit? What will be your dividend yield based on the cost today then?

Although all sounds good, do not forget about customer concentration risk. But then again, their executive director just bought 1million shares from the market so what does that mean?

Good Luck

U zoom into a particular period it looks like its going down. U zoom out to more than 1 year then u tell me what picture you see. In the short term markets are unpredictable, but in the long term with good fundamentals you see a different picture.

When it comes to risk, its whether it is high risk or low risk. Although there is a single customer risk, I believe the risk is relatively low. In the past, the Nike brand was hurt when their manufacturers use forced labour and child labour etc. Nike's strongest competitive advantage is thier brand and cannot afford to lose. Thats why anyone who wants to become a manufacturer for Nike first needs to go through strict production audit and checks and I believe Magni is not exempted (You can read more at here: http://help-us.nikeinc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20878/~/nike-supply-chain-disclosure). SIG have been with Nike for more than 10 years already. Logically, as a business owner, if you work with a partner who knows exactly what you want and how to deliver it for more than 10 years, will you just cut them off? Especially when Nike have to focus more on selling more instead of keep on changing manufacturers. During the AGM, the management shared that they did diversify but Nike ordered so much that they become the largest customer again. You can also see this in their financial statements. In the 2016 annual report, they bought a very large amount of inventories (Based on cash flow statement) and in the last 2 quarters, with the forex maintained at about 4.40 - 4.50, revenue grew by 30-40% in each quarter. To me, this is evidence of massive sales. Don't get me wrong, it is still a risk, but consider whether the risk is low or high. Also, just to share, in the contract manufacturing industry, it normally runs on contracts for about 5 years each. The biggest risk for Magni I feel is whether they can keep up with Nike's demand so need to pay attention to their manpower management (which explains why they are collaborated with a Vietnamese partner to manufacture: http://www.magni-tech.com.my/?mod=pages&function=show_page&page_id=67). If they cannot meet the demands as per contract, they have to actually compensate the contracting company. Hope this helps

Any investments comes with risks as well. Don't forget that Nike's revenue alone is more than 78%. Although they have long term relationship, Nike has more than 400 other manufacturers across the globe. This means many others can do what Magni is doing. Nike can switch manufacturer with just a snap of the finger. Magni's PE also never exceeded PE of 10 before.

True there is growth. True there is good track record. True that it looks undervalued compared to its prospects. But make sure you are aware of the risks. Protect yourself as well. Make money safely.

P/s: I have vested interest haha

Also lets not forget that Nike has very strong branding and sells their products GLOBALLY, not just in the US.

Stock

Nike has more than 400 other manufacturers across the globe. Before Trump, apparels and shoes imports are already heavily taxed in the US. So raising taxes will not be much threat to Nike to bring back jobs. They pay peanuts to workers in 3rd world countries to manufacture vs paying USD, social benefits etc to workers in the US. Let us also not forget that Nike operates in a labour intensive industry. I am skeptical that Trump is able to bring jobs back. US citizens are definitely not open to being paid peanuts for such labour intensive jobs.

Back in 2007 when Magni acquired SIG (Garment manufacturing company), their share price was only about 0.48-0.50+. Today, the share price is about RM 4.67. That is a 934% return or 28.1% annualized return over 9 years. That is excluding all the special dividends awarded regularly over the years. Now there are 2 types of investors; one who focuses on buying and selling hoping to consistently profit from the ups and downs of the market and another who just buy once in 2007/08 and held it until today. Some of us are not intelligent enough to read the charts or time the market, but if they were to just hold on to this company due to increasing profits and dividends, they would have definitely made a very handsome returns. Let some of us choose our investment philosophy

I do not know if Tan has a good sense of business or not. Not enough info to judge. The company started off as a plastic and packaging company. Didn't do so well. Then they diversified into a totally different business which is the current one, garment manufacturing. Then one in 2014 they mentioned want to look into property development which is another totally different business. What I see now is that the company have a very very valuable asset which is the garment manufacturing business. But I must give the management team credit for consistently sharing profits with shareholders. kudos.

Oh? Nike Q2 also came out already? Hahaha thanks for sharing. I have little doubt about Nike's ability to grow. The world still so huge with many new potential emerging markets like India Vietnam Myanmar etc not China alone. With their marketing strength and innovation, I have hood confidence in Nike. And when Nike does well so does......do your own due diligence. Good luck.

Obama in his last presidential campaign also said want to do the same thing la like renegotiate NAFTA, impose tariffs/levies, bring back jobs etc. Then in 2009 he also did impose tariffs/taxes/levies heavily on imports from China. He did succeeded in creating more jobs. But the side effect was that China imposed big taxes on other US exports as a counter. So during that time both economies suffered huge losses. That is why now u see Obama keep pushing for free trade deals like TPP etc. So give Trump time to gain some wisdom. Unless he is mad enough to fight till the death. But then again, the president only can impose heavy tariffs like these for short period of time only. For it to be a long term tariff, they need congress approval. And not everyone is mad enough to let Trump kill US economy so overall, risks is quite low for me. If they really did, then good luck to USA.

actually they have abundance of cash, they can go explore other countries like vietnam to ramp up production. Their cash ALONE is 5 times their TOTAL LIABILITIES if i am not mistaken. I would prefer if the company pays out more special dividends. Otherwise, really do massive expansion. Their revenue/size still really small compared to other furniture makers.

yes. This shows that many other players can manufacture their apparels. So Nike can anytime switch. This is a risk for Magni that we need to observe. But I read online that Magni's subsidiary, SIG, has been working with Nike for more than 30 years already. Nike is a 50+ year old company. SIG work with Nike for more than half of its age already. So I consider this a low risk la. But just need to observe

But regardless of whoever becomes president, I think people are still going to the gym, swimming, etc. And when they go for these activities, they can't just wear any normal clothing. Magni produces apparels (Clothings) for Nike and other Brands also. But Nike has almost 400 other manufacturers according to their annual reports. All I know is that the demand for Nike's products will go up. Whether it is confirmed that they will order for Magni I don't know. But there is a good chance.

in Q1 2017, revenues for Magni increased by 40%. Since USD MYR rate is stabilized at about 4+, this is definitely from increased sales order by customers. In Nike's 1st quarter report page 3, global apparel sales increased from US$ 2.34 bil to US$ 2.55bil or US$ 208 million increase. this is in US$ millions and billions. Quite scary to see how ppl spend on clothing. But that is probably why Magni received such huge orders.

Nike sales decreasing? Have you checked Nike quarterly reports? Nike's 1Q 2017 revenue went up by 8%. Nike as of FY 2016 clocked in US$ 32 bil in sales while Adidas and Under Armour is US$ 18.48bil and US$3.96 bil in sales respectively. Whose market share is still the largest? Nike, Adidas, Under Armour etc are public listed companies. These are all public information.

In case you didnt realize, in the cash flow statement, Magni in FY 2016 also made a Rm51 mil purchase in inventories. Why buy so much materials if not for major orders? Also no one noticed that Magni's profits have been growing at an annual growth rate more than 35% for the past 10 years? Not only that, it recorded a 40% jump in revenue but 51% jump in net profit in Q1 2017 alone. Strong growth, favourable forex, good dividend track record and its currently selling for PE of 8-9. These are publicly available facts. Invest intelligently.
