Malaysian Covid-19 test kits approved for EU sale
Two Covid-19 test kits developed by a Malaysian company has been approved for sale in the European Union, the company said in a statement today. The company, Medical Innovation Ventures Sdn Bhd (Mediven), said its "GenoAmp Real-Time RT PCR SARS-CoV-2" test kits use the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) technique to detect the presence of the virus that causes Covid-19. It identifies the SARS-CoV-2 virus through three genetic markers in the virus’ genome that are less prone to mutation. “The kit is specifically designed to target the conserved regions of these genes. “By targeting three different genes, it increases the sensitivity of the test in detecting SARS-CoV-2, because should the virus mutate, the chances of all three targets mutating is low,” said scientist Nicole Tang, who developed the test. The company had previously announced the successful development of the kits on March 18, using government funding channelled through the Malaysia Technology Development Corporation. The company is currently offering two types of test kits that can detect the virus that causes Covid-19. One type can detect the virus alone, while the other type can be used to screen other influenza and influenza-like illnesses as well. The kits’ reagents come in a premixed form, which Mediven operations director Lim Li Sze claimed is ready-to-use and cuts processing time from six hours to three hours. The company claimed that the Institute of Medical Research (IMR) had tested the kits and found its performance to be in line with standards set by the World Health Organisation and the US Centres for Disease Control. IMR had previously developed its test kit on Jan 11, on the same day scientists in China published the necessary information on the virus’ genetic sequence. Neither the IMR nor Mediven has publicly released data on its tests’ performance.

These idiots actually pose for a picture to be taken for the whole world to see when the rest of the right-thinking and patriotic Malaysians are staying at home during the MCO.
Furthermore, don’t they know communal eating is banned when there is a pandemic? Noor Azmi and Razman, as government officials, should know better.
I hope the authorities take serious action against Noor Azmi, Razman and the rest involved as Malaysians are in a panic mode with this kind of brainless people gathering about.

Trump has long questioned the value of the United Nations and scorned the importance of multilateralism as he focuses on an “America First” agenda.
Since Trump took office, he has quit the UN Human Rights Council, the UN cultural agency Unesco, a global accord to tackle climate change and the Iran nuclear deal and opposed a UN migration pact.
The Trump administration cut funding in 2017 for the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), the UN agency that helps Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in 2018 and put on hold its contribution to the UN’s aviation agency last year.
Under the WHO’s 2018-19 biennium budget, the United States was required to pay US$237 million - known as an assessed contribution, which is appropriated by Congress - and also made some US$656 million in voluntary contributions that were tied to specific programmes.
According to the WHO website, China’s contribution for 2018-2019 was almost US$76 million in assessed contributions and some US$10 million in voluntary funding.

Millions of Americans have lost their jobs, and the US economy has been crippled as citizens have stayed home and businesses were ordered to close, casting a shadow over Trump’s hopes of being re-elected in November.
WHO needs more resources
The World Health Organization is a UN specialised agency - an independent international body that works with the United Nations. A spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump’s announcement.
The WHO has been appealing for more than US$1 billion to fund operations against the pandemic. The agency needs more resources than ever as it leads the global response against the disease.
Trump said Washington would discuss with global health partners what it will do with the millions of dollars that would normally go to the WHO and said the United States would continue to engage with the organisation.

Trump halts WHO funding over handling of coronavirus
President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he has instructed his administration to halt funding to the World Health Organization over its handling of the coronavirus pandemic while his administration reviews its response to the global crisis.
Trump, at a White House news conference, said the WHO had “failed in its basic duty and it must be held accountable.” He said the group had promoted China’s “disinformation” about the virus that likely led to a wider outbreak of the virus than otherwise would have occurred.
The United States is the biggest overall donor to the Geneva-based WHO, contributing more than US$400 million in 2019, roughly 15% of its budget.
The hold on funding was expected. Trump has been increasingly critical of the organisation as the global health crisis has continued, and he has reacted angrily to criticism of his administration’s response.
The decision drew immediate condemnation. American Medical Association President Dr Patrice Harris called it “a dangerous step in the wrong direction that will not make defeating Covid-19 easier” and urged Trump to reconsider.
The Republican president has accused the WHO of being too lenient with China in the earliest days of the pandemic, causing unnecessary deaths by failing to impose a travel ban on China.
“The WHO failed in this basic duty and must be held accountable,” Trump said.
The US death toll from Covid-19, the highly contagious respiratory illness caused by the virus, topped 25,700 on Tuesday, out of more than 600,000 known US infections, according to a running Reuters tally.

Meanwhile, Jagdeep said the state was also looking into property purchasing opportunities for foreigners. Currently, foreigners can purchase landed properties which are RM3 million or more on the island and RM1 million or more on the mainland. They can also purchase apartments at RM1 million (or more) on the island, or RM500,000 and above on the mainland. "We are reviewing the figures downwards to clear the overhang," Jagdeep said. Prior to the MCO, which was imposed on March 18, he said the overhang figures were at 31,092 unsold units. The highest overhang figures were found in Johor (5,470 units), Perlis (5,120), Selangor (4,822) and Penang (4,358). In January, the rent-to-own scheme for housing projects up to RM500,000 was already supposed to be rolled out across Malaysia to address the overhang issue. Jagdeep said a discussion with all stakeholders including the state exco members, housing agents, and chamber of commerce officials will be held before the price reduction policy is implemented. "The situation is such that even if we approve housing projects, developers cannot get financial support from banks, nor can they sell their properties as people cannot afford the units," Jagdeep said. "So, it is better, we all adapt to the new normal. We have to seriously look in price reduction. "We will rise from the ashes to fight Covid-19,

Penang looks into reducing property prices to stimulate industry
The Penang Housing Department will look into reducing the price of houses and apartments as a "win-win" situation to help both buyers and developers overcome the effects of Covid-19 pandemic. State executive councillor on housing Jagdeep Singh Deo (above) said it is undeniable that developers too are badly affected by the movement control order (MCO) which has now been extended to May 12. Jagdeep said the state administration was also in the process of studying how to provide incentives to developers and buyers in order to stimulate the housing industry. "We have to balance out the situation, we will review the guidelines on how to further incentivise the delivery of affordable housing," Jagdeep said during a press conference in Komtar today. "We must realise that building of every unit of housing involves about 100 industries like raw materials, sand and bricks, steel, engineers, architects and interior designers among others. "We want to ensure that all industries can rise up to fight back against this Covid-19 pandemic," he added. Jagdeep said some developers may not be happy with the suggestion to lower the housing price. However, he said the proposal would help those who cannot sell their units due to high prices.

Others said Airbus had little choice but to recoup as much as possible from the jets, worth US$111 to US$130 million each at most recent list prices, but less than half after typical discounts.
Buyers are currently scarce, but some are ready for bargains. Ryanair, a mainly Boeing customer with an Airbus fleet through acquisition, told Reuters last week that now could be a good time to buy jets.
Wizz Air says it wants to take new planes.
In February, long-haul subsidiary AirAsiaX said it would defer delivery of 78 larger A330neo jets.
Boeing, meanwhile, faced the latest in a spate of cancellations of its grounded 737 MAX, as China Development Bank said it had agreed with Boeing to cancel 29 jets.

Many airlines want deliveries deferred
Airbus said this month it faced many calls from airlines to defer aircraft deliveries, but had not received cancellations directly as a result of the coronavirus epidemic.
A sale would protect Airbus's investment in parts, but comes with greater than usual risk during the industry crisis.
With most airlines struggling financially and reluctant to take deliveries, the move could lead to pressure from other customers to find new homes for aircraft they no longer want, triggering a broader sale of undelivered jets, the sources said.
Airbus has said it has 60 aircraft already built that it is unable to deliver, partly for logistical reasons.
Secondly, Airbus faces a risk that any cut-price deals will set a precedent for future jet sales.
"It's a small community and the result of these tenders often gets out," said a second source familiar with the auction.

Airbus puts six jets made for AirAsia up for sale as crisis deepens
Airbus has put six jets made for one of its largest customers up for sale after giving up on Malaysia's AirAsia taking delivery of them, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters in Paris.
The unusual move is a sign of the deepening crisis in the aviation industry caused by the coronavirus pandemic, which some analysts warn could lead to a fire-sale of unwanted planes.
Like other airlines looking to save cash amid lockdowns and travel bans that have crippled their business, AirAsia has said it doesn't need any more aircraft this year.
Manufacturers usually insist an airline takes delivery of jets that have been built, while showing flexibility on delivery dates of planes yet to be produced, especially for top clients.
Although "pop-up" sales of unwanted aircraft are not new, they rarely involve high-profile customers and typically include the manufacturer keeping the deposit, the sources said. Airbus declined to comment on whether it had done so this time.
"It is a harsh step to take," said one source, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.
An Airbus spokesperson said: "We do not disclose or comment on delivery schedules for any customers."
A spokesperson for AirAsia, Asia's biggest low-cost carrier, declined to comment.
Airbus has invited bids for four A320neo and two A321neo jets built for AirAsia, according to the sources and a confidential document seen by Reuters.
Buyers can fetch the jets from France or Germany in June, complete with optional onboard equipment ordered by AirAsia.

Hi happy investors of Ageson, just to ask is it
45 X80 (reserving some place for side and back)
if 3 floors + 1 parking facility underneath
45 X80= 3600
3600 X (3+1) = 144000 st built up total
so 144000 x RM175= 2.52 million?
RM175, inclusive of building structure till finish? And is it possible to do piling for 3-4 storey first, but built 2 storey and 1 parking facility, then upgrade somemore?
