MAS was't the only airline flying the route over the conflict area.
"A Singapore Airlines passenger plane was flying just 15 miles away from flight MH17 when it was shot out of the sky over Ukraine."
"Figures also reveal 55 planes from airlines including Thai Airways; Singapore Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Qatar Airways, Etihad and Emirates; flew over the war zone on the same day the tragedy happened"
