definitely insiders were buying in the past few weeks. it was quite weird when the negativity was totally surrounding MAS but yet prices held and generally traded above 20sen.

Now MH370 was the initial shock and it dropped like a rock. but MH17 was pretty less severe. EPF and KWAP could be huge buyers as well as well a few MAS + Khazanah's insiders. Once i saw this i was totally convinced there will be a buyout. my patience netted me a 50% return

I thought they were going to buyout at at least 30sen. i was holding out for that, but i kinda knew they were going to use some weighted average price for the past three months in getting the calculation for 27sen. In anycase i predicted a bailout and had bought at 17.5sen...

mixed feelings here, im pretty happy with the return but sad that it was at the expense of the perished passengers...

be greedy when others are fearful, be fearful when others are greedy.

what the situation now calls is for Khazanah to expedite the so called plan to save MAS. the company needs it now more than ever.

worst case scenario is for them to let it bankrupt..and that will only happen if union leaders continue to be stubborn.

there are just too many parties welfare at stake. Khazanah needs to act sooner rather than later. i believe they could announce something (for shareholder's consumption) before Hari Raya or latest before August.

http://www.thestar.com.my/Business/Business-News/2014/06/25/MAS-needs-radical-sweeping-changes-says-group-CEO/

based from the CEO's remarks, there could be a case for MAS to be broken up into separate business units. still early to tell but the CEO of course is working with Khazanah and has the inside tracks to Khazanah's restructuring plan. This may or may not be the case but it sure is pointing that way.

Say this is the case, putting my investment banker hat on, then shareholders could receive shares in each business units (engineering, kargo, etc) of each share owned in MAS. Or opt for cash.

of course im speculating here but those could be the probable permutation should that event come into reality.

in my view, the price may not fall below the all-time low as the bankruptcy talk is not in play anymore. it was pretty much a triple whammy when losses were -RM400m++, MH370 and Najib announing Bankruptcy was an option for MAS.

The sell-off was like never before! now the government will not let MAS bankrupt...the Unions will relent to request as they have much to lose in a bankrupt situation.

So when people say that the second quarter result will move the price lower i will have to disagree. so what if MAS loses another -RM400m in the second quarter? people are already aware of MAS dire straight.

In the best case scenario the market will move to the upside if somehow MAS makes a profit (which of course is a very low probability event) or if there are news of a takeover, or Khazanah's restructuring plan is a positive or something to that effect

i know how the analyst work. in order to get a high probability of calls correct, they would sometimes study the chart and based TP on a level of their choice. This level would be based on the current sentiment on the stock as well as their client's view. Once they take all this into consideration, they would then work backwards in order to come up with a valuation, which of course was never based on fundamentals in the first place. They can easily rationalize a position by throwing facts and information that relates to their stock call. Its just like lawyers defending their clients in court..one lawyer will show evidence why his defendant is guilty, while the other lawyer will show evidence that the defendant is innocent.

How do i know this? Well, just over 10 years of experience as an analyst and fund manager..thats all.

i dont deny that there are a large degree of speculation in this stock, but it all depends on what is the basis of that speculation. i am speculating, sure..ofcourse..no earnings, no dividends...but the prevailing bias has been a "bankrupt" story. now govt came out and said that they will not let it go bankrupt.

speculators like myself(i entered at 17.5sen) stick to a certain story and hope that the story that i build reflect the actual outcome. which is that MAS will not go bankrupt.

there are a lot of ways to view this stock at BOTH extremes. i am making an educated guess. that is far different than hope.

the difference is MAS has unions which are powerful and have contributed to the decline. MAS could've had millions in cost savings and their fortune reversed had it not been the unions hard stance. I dont think Silterra has unions. Now, with MAS in focus with talk of bankruptcy, union leaders are now faced with the embarrassing prospect of admitting that they need to save jobs of union members. to avoid losing jobs, we are now seeing for the first time a different side to the unions. Management and Khazanah has better flexibility now to execute than ever before...trust me, MAS would survive this.

what nightmare event could possibly be for MAS compared to an experience as tragic as MH370, not to mention the -RM400++m loss that they incurred last quarter. the price has already been pushed down the lowest it could go. government has swung around their view of MAS. this could be the bottom already. 15 sen was the bottom, some sellers to have made more than 40% return hence the selloff

guys, dont treat the "recovery" of MAS down to its partnership with other airlines. that aint a strong catalyst. the market now has the bias that the government will save MAS. so these few days may see some selling as there are people out there with 20-30% profit and are taking money off the table..

it would not go back to 17sen. there will be loads of support already. it went there on the basis of a so called "bankruptcy" as announced by najib. now najib has come out and basically say that they wont allow it to go bankrupt.

im holding mine. it will go above 30sen in the coming months

why should it have sold down if a buyout news would be positive for the stock? im also not limiting it to a buyout/privatization as there could be other plays that we are not aware of.
