worry not local business Q3&Q4 traditionally very strong, this year more interesting...

1) OCK has been awarded few hundred built-to-suit sites from a local telecom operator
(post the latter ending its network sharing and alliance agreement) and
set to deliver c.70-100 sites by the end CY18.

2) OCK is in the midst of rolling-out fiberisation work orders from major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to cater for the increase in data demand and network speed.

Commenting on the Group’s Q1FYE2018 performance, Mr. Sam Ooi Chin Khoon, Managing Director of OCK Group Berhad said, “We are optimistic of OCK’s continuous growth throughout the financial year ahead as it is a norm that our first quarter usually starts on a slower note. Tower business the new growth chapter for OCK.... Everything is on track.. superb!

The Group has been on a growth trajectory, achieving a 6-year profit after tax compounded annual
growth rate of 43% from 2010 to 2016. While the initial growth engine of the Group has been its local contracting business, the Group in the past 2 years generated significant growth from its regional expansion mainly from Vietnam with the acquisition of SEATH and Myanmar with its tower leasing business which will continue to be the way forward in bringing the Group to greater heights.

The Group is dedicated to grow its regional ASEAN telecom footprint through greenfield, brownfield and potential acquisitions opportunities to own more telecommunication sites to achieve its vision of becoming an ASEAN Tower company and to increase it’s recurring income stream.

The Group’s Management would want a dedicated leader to spearhead the Group’s regional expansion. In line with this, Dr. Yap Wai Khee, the current Group Chief Executive Officer (“GCEO”) is re-designated to be the Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of OCK Sea Towers Pte. Ltd., overseeing the Group’s telecommunications tower business in South East Asia (“SEA”).

Dr. Yap earned his MBA from Imperial College, University of London and completed his PhD in
Engineering from the University of Cambridge. With over 21 years of corporate experience with various leadership roles both in local and foreign telecommunications companies such as Axiata Group Berhad, Mfone (Cambodia) and Robi Axiata (Bangladesh), Dr Yap is the most suited candidate to take on the responsibility of driving OCK’s regional telecom expansion in SEA.

Commenting on the Group’s announcement, Mr. Sam Ooi Chin Khoon, Managing Director of OCK
Group Berhad said, “I am delighted to announce the leadership re-designations. Dr. Yap will be the best person to lead our strategic direction of bringing OCK to the next level through our regional tower business expansion. We believe that the change in leadership is imperative for our Group to reach the next level of growth regionally. With Dr. Yap at the helm of OCK Sea Towers Pte. Ltd., and with David overseeing the Group’s overall executive function, we foresee our regional telecom operations and OCK Group will be well-positioned, to achieve greater heights” he added.

Telenor Myanmar pays USD 80 million to double its 4G spectrum capacity

•First mobile operator in Myanmar to exercise option of acquiring additional 1800MHz spectrum
•Investing more in ultramodern network for delivering best customer experience

15thDecember 2017, Yangon –Telenor Myanmar will invest USD 80 million in Myanmar to acquire additional 2X10 MHz spectrum in the 1800MHz frequency band. The company will also optimize its network to continuously deliver consistent and improved 4G data experience.

“Myanmar has shown an exceptional hunger for mobile data, and to meet the incredible demand Telenor continues investing in a state-of-the-art network. Today, we are doubling our capacity for delivering high-quality 4G services, resulting in an immediate benefit for our customers who will experience smoother internet services and better indoor coverage,” said Lars Erik Tellmann, Chief Executive Officer at Telenor Myanmar.

In May 2017, Telenor was allocated its first 2X10MHz of 1800MHz spectrum for USD 80 million. In that process, all operators were given an option to acquire additional spectrum on a first come first served basis. Telenor is the first operator in Myanmar that exercise the right to obtain more spectrum, providing a solid spectrum position to support roll out of “real 4G” services.

During the last six months, Telenor has rapidly deployed its 4G network and by the end of 2017 the company expect to cover Myanmar’s top 50 cities and most famous destinations. This means that 2/3 of the country’s urban population is already living within the company’s 4G footprint. In addition, tests conducted by Open Signal, the world’s largest crowdsourcing services for network quality, shows that Telenor also has the best 3G network quality in Myanmar.

“Myanmar has clear ambitions ofaccelerating its digital economy, and I believe that increased deployment of an ultramodern mobile infrastructure will support Myanmar in its digital transformation. As one of the largest foreign investors in Myanmar we continue efforts to provide a digital platform that enrich people’s lives, enable new business development and help attract potential foreign investment,” Tellmann said.

Telenor is one of Myanmar’s largest foreign investors and have so far invested over USD 2 billion since entering the country in 2013. Telenor today operates Myanmar’s largest and fastest growing data network spanning close to 8,000 sites nationwide, serving more than 19 million customers in all states, regions and the union territory.

REGIONAL PERFORMANCE
For the cumulative 3QFYE2017, the Group’s regional segment recorded significant financial improvement with its revenue at RM124.0 million, PBT at RM19.5 million and PAT of RM15.7 million. This translates to an outstanding revenue growth rate of 128.3%. Correspondingly, PBT and PAT also grew by 517.0% and 746.9% respectively.

For the Myanmar operations, the Group has completed and owns more than 640 telecommunication towers. During the quarter under review, OCK had secured an additional 300 telecommunication tower orders from the new telecommunication operator named Telecom International Myanmar Company Limited (“Mytel”) on a build and lease model, similar to the Telenor Myanmar’s agreement, and the roll-out is currently in progress.

In addition, the Group managed to secure co-location agreements with other operators in Myanmar including Mytel and Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (“MPT”), which will further enhance its tenancy ratio in the coming months.

Vietnam's telecoms market dials up massive revenue growth

Vietnam's telecoms industry posted nearly a 130 percent increase in total revenue in the first half of this year to VND213 trillion ($9.38 billion).

The three providers all reported double-digit revenue growth, helped by subscribers moving from 2G to 3G services, together with the newly deployed 4G services, a report released by the Ministry of Information and Communications said.

4G services have been available in big cities since the beginning of this year, and the three operators are racing to deploy the service across the country by the year-end.

Higher demand for towers due to 4G rollout .... For Telenor alone, how many do you think it targets to increase next year? And how many going to award to OCK?

Telenor, with a network that already includes more than 7,400 tower sites, plans to add its antennas to another 9,000 sites in urban and rural areas by 2018, said company spokesperson Mr Joachim Rajaram. Telenor will lease space on the towers...

Telenor and Ooredoo are in the midst of a major urban rollout. Demand for towers is the highest it has been in years.

Telenor spokesperson Mr Joachim Rajaram said the telco has never stopped expanding in the countryside, and has more than 7,200 towers serving more than 19 million customers throughout Myanmar. But as the growth of new users slows, it is refocusing on urban areas.

“We are strengthening our network capacity in cities and towns across the country where data adoption continues to grow,” Rajaram said.

This means hundreds of new towers – everything from large, standalone “greenfield” structures (to use an industry term), to small towers erected on existing infrastructure. As they scramble to claim territory, tower builders are staking out sites on rooftops, billboards and even light poles.

“Network transmission in layman terms can be viewed as plumbing pipes,” said Mr Ricky Steyn, Edotco’s director of engineering. “The water can be compared to data and the pipes to bandwidths. The bigger the pipes the more water you can direct through; thus the bigger the bandwidth the more data you can send through your network.”

He said the focus on urban areas was not surprising. “Data traffic is increasing dramatically in urban areas: there is a capacity issue and black spots are forming, resulting in the need for more towers.”

Most of the towers erected in Yangon this year will be at what Steyn calls “filler” towers, which fill in the coverage gaps between the larger “macro” towers. From a construction perspective, these small urban towers are far less costly than the rural installations, which are usually much larger and more difficult to supply.

I think CAGR of 17% is the conservative figure based on a tenancy ratio of 1.0x. What is the chances it will remain at 1.0x for the next 3 years?

The group is well positioned to increase Myanmar tenancy ratio with additional tenants. The towers are designed for a maximum of three tenants. Thereafter, minor upgrading works are required for additional tenants. The scalability of OCK’s Myanmar towers could further lift our base-case earnings projection by 21% and 38% in 2017 and 2018 respectively (assuming higher tenancy ratio of 1.2x, from base case of 1x). This translates into blue-sky 3-year earnings CAGR of 31% (versus base case of 17%).

OCK offers good growth prospects

OCK (OCK MK/BUY/Target: RM1.00) is a key beneficiary of rising data volume in
frontier emerging markets. The group can leverage on Telenor Myanmar’s rapid network
expansion while the recent acquisition of SEATH (Southeast Asia Telecommunications
Holdings) in Vietnam provided for a meaningful footprint in the country’s growing market.
Key re-rating catalysts include: a) additional tower lease contracts secured in Myanmar
and/or Vietnam, and b) higher tenancy ratio. Beyond 2017, OCK is poised to secure an
additional 2,000 tower lease contract in Myanmar. This, we believe, is driven
predominantly by Telenor Myanmar’s aim to become the No. 1 operator in Myanmar with
a leadership position in data network and digital enablement.

OCK Group Bhd - More Towers Up

OCK is poised to deliver a strong 3-year (2015-18) core PATAMI CAGR of 22%, underpinned by its enlarged towerco assets. Maintain OUTPERFORM call with unchanged TP of RM0.96, based on DCF valuation (WACC: 9.1%, TG: 1.5%).

Solid closing for FY16. OCK reported a strong revenue growth of 29% YoY (to RM407m) in FY16 with EBITDA advancing 28% YoY, in tandem with its top-line performance. Its PATAMI, however, recorded lower growth of 0.8% YoY (to RM25.8m) as a result of forex loss of RM3.2m and under-provision of prior year taxes of RM1.9m. Stripping-off these EI items, its normalised core PATAMI would have grown 40% YoY to RM31m. OCK Yangon’s tower business, meanwhile, contributed its maiden revenue of RM6.7m (from c.600 revenue generating sites) since 2H16 and recorded a PAT of c.RM1m. Dividend-wise, while OCK did not recommend any dividend in conjunction with its 4Q16 result release, the group does not discount that it may reward its shareholders in the later stage.

OCK has completed and handed over 604 sites to Telenor Myanmar as of mid-Feb 2017 and expects to complete all 920 towers by 2Q17 (from initial target of 1Q17 followed by more detailed site surveys conducted by Telenor Myanmar, which could lead to the remaining towers being built in more strategic city-centric locations). The changes could yield an advantage for OCK as those sites could provide good co-location potential and attract additional tenants in the future.

we also understand that discussions of the long-term lease have commenced with Myanmar Post and Telecommunications (MPT) on co-locations, which could further enhance tenancies moving forward, if successful. The Myanmar project is expected to contribute c.RM60m revenue per annum (based on a tenancy ratio of 1.0x) with a lucrative targeted EBITDA margin of c.60%. Should OCK Yangon manage to improve the tenancy ratio, it would provide a positive catalyst to OCK’s forward earnings thanks to the lucrative margin contribution.

Vietnam tower business. we also gather that SEATH is aiming to increase its asset base by additional 300-400 sites per annum with selfgenerated fund.

Targets to complete 920 towers for Telenor by 1Q17. The group has completed and
handed over 500 sites to Telenor Myanmar as of Dec 16. As such, we believe the group
is on track to complete the remaining 420 towers by end-1Q17. Separately, we note that
there is a variation to the site survey, which resulted in more strategic city-centric
locations being planned by Telenor Myanmar......, we believe these changes
are an advantage for OCK as they provides good co-location potential (additional tenants)
in the near future.

OCK Group: Solid Earnings Trajectory In 2017 UOBKayHian

Key re-rating catalysts: Higher co-location potential… The group is well positioned to
increase Myanmar tenancy ratio with additional tenants. Telenor has a two-month
exclusivity before OCK is allowed to sign on a second/third tenant. The towers are
designed for a maximum of three tenants. Thereafter, minor upgrading works are required
for additional tenants. At this juncture, we understand government-owned Myanmar Post
and Telecommunication (MPT) are interested in some of OCK’s tower sites as they have
signed a short-term tenancy contract (6 months).

…provides scope for earnings upside. The scalability of OCK’s Myanmar towers could
further lift our base-case earnings projection by 21% and 38% in 2017 and 2018
respectively (assuming higher tenancy ratio of 1.2x, from base case of 1x). This
