Consumers who opt for Green Electricity Tariff (GET) Programme subscriptions will pay:

1. Normal tariff as per the Tariff Schedule + The premium GET rate of 3.7 sen/kWh

The ADDITIONAL premium 3.7sen/kWh payment collected from GET programme will be channeled to Malaysian Electricity Supply Industry Trust Account (MESITA) to support the implementation of national renewable energy agenda and initiatives.

Electricity generated by renewable energy is not supplied to a specific home or business. When you subscribe to GET, TNB will match 100% of your subscription of GET from TNB renewable energy instead of using energy from natural gas or coal-fired power plants. This green energy enters the electric system daily and reduces the amount of energy needed from fossil-fuel based power plants. As more consumers subscribe to GET, the amount of fossil fuel purchases can decrease.

The resources for producing electricity for the purpose of the GET Programme will be from the renewable energy resources as determined and approved by the Energy Commission from time to time.

With the implementation of the GET Programme, the consumers will have an option to purchase green energy without having to install their own solar rooftop or other renewable energy installations.

Consumers enrolled in the GET Programme will receive the Malaysian Renewable Energy Certificate (mREC) which is recognized internationally at the end of each year

Subscribing to GET means that supporting environmentally friendly and green agenda such as to meet your sustainable targets through offsetting electricity’s carbon emission, and boost “eco-friendly” brand image.
In addition, you are supporting growth of the renewable energy industries and reduce reliant on gas or coal-fired power plants.

Remark: Malaysia Data Center, like TM if wan to opt for Green Data Center will have to subscribe GET from TNB, and pay premium traffic rate on top of normal traffic rate in order to get green certification.

Likewise, in Singapre, if Data center wish to get Green certification, center need to source electricity from renewal energy and paid additional premium traffic rate on top of normal Singapore traffic rate SGD31.82. YTLP have given pilot quota to supply 100MW green energy export from Malaysia to Singapore. Another Singapore power supplier, Keppel Eletric secure mandate to import renewal energy from Loas.

@tonywong8, right now TNB is the only electricity supplier in this country, so naturally it supplies electricity to all the other data centres in Johor and other parts of the country. I do not think TNB supplies electricity to data centres at a lower tariff, it is more of the case of these data centres subscribing for the GET programme and pay a premium tariff in order to get a green certificate as what hng33 stated above.

The RM27 billion government subsidy you mentioned above was the fuel subsidy our government agreed to pay to TNB for not raising electricity tariffs when energy costs (coal prices, gas & oil prices) escalated via the Fuel Cost Inbalance Mechanism. That is supposed to make good on TNB costs so that it would not suffer huge losses, but has taken a big toll on government finance as fuel prices remain at elevated levels.

You need to understand that the government finance is tight, same as TNB's. The receivables sitting on TNB balance sheet are going up by billions every quarter, those are the fuel subsidies committed to be paid by the government to TNB but not yet paid. So this poses a huge risk to TNB in the event the government is not able to pay the fuel subsidy in time.

Those other new data centre projects announced recently in Johor will mostly be powered by solar power, same as the one started by YTL Power in Kulai. Of course, everyone would love to get into this business, whether TNB or Johor state government or other IPPs, but a developer of such green data centre must have deep pockets, expertise in power generation, expertise in construction of data centre park and international connection to MNCs that require huge data centre.

YTLPower has all these credentials, being in nett cash position at holding level, with over 20 years of power generation experience and hundreds of power plant engineers in Malaysia and Singapore, with over 65 years of construction experience and with good relationship with MNCs like SEA.

More importantly YTLPower has the first mover advantage and has already secured sufficient land in Johor for growing the data centre park for next 8-10 years.

RAM mentioned about the strong operating cashflows of YTL Power, and the group has substantial RM6.83 billion of unencumbered cash reserves under YTLPI and a RM742.37 million cash balance at company level.

This reaffirms my earlier estimate of a nett cash position in YTLPI.

YTLPI's green data centre park project is gaining traction, having secured the green financing for the first phase of 48MW green data centre.

YTLPI has already secured some 246MW of green data centre jobs for the Kulai park, almost half of the targeted 500MW capacity when fully developed.

How many income streams will arise from this Data Center project?

Only from IPP only the Data Center does not generate income is it?

Thank you

As I understand it, this data centre business is more like a concession where YTLPower spends the capex to build the data centre and solar power farm that powers up the data centre, data centre owners like SEA Group will pay back YTLPower through concession charges over 10-20 years. In a way, this is quite similar to an IPP business.

For the first 48MW green data centre project, the secured financing was RM1.1 billion. Assuming 75% gearing ratio, total project cost may come to RM1.5 billion.

A project IRR of 8% for a 20-year concession will see gross revenue of RM132 million in first year stepping up to RM192 million in year 20.

When the green data centre park is fully developed with 500MW capacity, then total gross revenue will rise 10 folds from above projections.

I think it is one income stream from the provision of both the data centre and solar power, it is an integrated facility. Such income stream will be substantial and steady for many years to come, without any fuel cost risk.

The export of power to Singapore is a separate stream of income altogether.

The trial export of 100MW power to Singapore has just started for 1 year.

The bigger block of power export is under a new tender called by Singapore government for up to 4,000MW by 2035.

The internal rate return for shale oil power plant is most lucrative due to combination return from shale oil fire power + mining shale on site (self supplier of all feedstock for power plant operation) = more than 20% IRR, which could generate more than RM 200m, topping additional eps 2 to 3 sen to YTLP earning onward for next 30year concession period + 10 year extension

The projected return is even higher than first lucrative generation PPA Msia that YTLP secure last 25year ago in Malaysia IRR = 18%

You can refer to YTLP AGM meeting 6 Dec 2022, YTLP director anwer minority shareholder watchdog, question 3, state clearly COD for unit 1 at end Oct 2022, unit 2 is expect at Jan 2023 (but, i get update from Attarat facebook that COD for unit 2 only likely end of Q1 or next month Mar 2023)

Frankly, shareholder are generally concern YTLP omit to state clear the power plant progress in last several Q report. Now, dispute arbitration have ended, and power plant officially achieved COD is good news for director to reinstate in upcoming Q report and share joy with shareholder as earning kicker from power plant is highly lucrative and significantly over next 30 year + 10 year

EPS = 2.45sen,

Wessex water report maiden loss making due to high inflation rate in UK. These is temporary setback only as traffic revision is due end of next month, New traffic rate effective April 2023 will ramp up significantly in accord to inflation rate, a Big significant reversal from loss making to windfall profit from wessex water record in YTLP Q4 onward.

Strangely, YTLP director still unwilling to share progress power plant with achieved milestone COD for unit 1 in last Oct 2022. Presumably, YTLP treat jordan power plant as associate due to holding only 45% stake and earning is record under its investment holding division which record significantly reversal to profit earning in current quarter.

Just imagine once wessex water return to profitability after revision up traffic starting Q2 2023 + full unit contriibution from jordan power COD, what will YTP EPS?

I project YTLP Q4 EPS >4sen and growth further above 5sen quarterly after solar power and green data center complete early next year.

In summary, with fully recovery annually EPS = 16sen, YTLp share prices should fully recover back to above RM 1.50, a whopping but predictable 100% gain over a period of 1 year investment horizon

Dividend definitely will increase in tandem with full EPS recovery. YTLP free cash flow is strong enough to support at least 50% payout as despite currently need big capex to develop mutlibillion 500MW data center power by solar. These is because majority of capex can be loan from banking, IRR from green data center > interest expense = surplus free cash flow

YTL Power Q2 results continue to show strength with net profit closing to RM200 million.

Again PowerSeraya carried the weight by posting RM300 million of pretax profit contribution to YTLPI, up from RM280m in Q1.

As hng33 has mentioned above, Wessex suffered a temporary loss of RM16 million in Q2. The loss was mainly due to interest accruals on index-linked bonds, a non-cash impact of RM75 million. Without this one-off impact, Wessex would have recorded a PBT of RM59 million, a big improvement from Q1.

Again, as I mentioned earlier, the weak results from Wessex in past few quarters were due to high inflation resulting in high operating costs, and such higher costs will be reflected into higher water tariffs in the future. The tariff will be due for adjustment from 1st April 2023, lets keep an eye on how much additional revenue Wessex will be getting in next quarter.

If you have probably noticed, the investment holding activities contributed a hefty RM42.5 million profit contribution to YTLPI in this Q2. As explained in the notes, these investment holding activities are mainly from the green data centre park and digital bank ventures. As the digital bank has not started commercial operations, most of this RM42.5m profit should have come from green data centre park project. And as announced by the company before, the company has just started work on the first phase of 48MW green data centre park. It is amazing that just the 1st phase of 48MW has generated RM42.5m profit in one quarter, though most of which was construction profit. Just imagine when the work on remaining 200MW secured data centre jobs start to roll, and the company manages to secure another 250MW data centre jobs for the Kulai site which has a capacity for total 500MW data centre park.

The operating cashflows for the 6 months to Dec 2022 were strong at RM1,188 million, enough to fund capex of RM890m and dividend payouts of RM288 million in the 6 months.

Net debt stood at RM21.3 billion as of 31 Dec 2022. As I derived before, most of these debts sit at the various subsidiary levels (Wessex, PowerSeraya and Jordan). The holding company was actually in a nett cash position of about RM400-1,000 million.

As for Jordan power plant, I understand that though commercial operations might have started in Nov 2022 but most of the activities on the ground were mainly mining of oil shale and testing of the power generating units after so many months of mothballing.

The actual commercial generation will start in this Q3 and hopefully we shall see maiden profit contribution from Jordan project to YTLPI in this Q3 and full contribution in Q4.
