Hari ini saya telah mempengerusikan Mesyuarat Majlis Pelaburan Negara (MPN) Bilangan 1 tahun ini yang membincangkan mengenai strategi dan hala tuju bagi meningkatkan pelaburan dalam negara.

Mesyuarat memutuskan bahawa pelaburan hijau (green investments) adalah antara bidang yang berpotensi untuk negara dan perlu dipertingkatkan. Dalam hubungan ini, Kerajaan akan membangunkan kerangka dasar beserta pelan khusus bagi menjadikan Malaysia sebagai destinasi dan hab pelaburan hijau utama serantau. Ini juga merupakan kesinambungan pelbagai inisiatif di bawah Pelan Hala Tuju Peralihan Tenaga Negara (NETR) untuk menggerakkan pelaburan ke dalam sektor pertumbuhan tinggi dan bernilai tinggi.

Terkait dengan penekanan terhadap pelaburan hijau, diputuskan juga bagi menjenamakan projek Kerajaan Persekutuan yang diumumkan di dalam Belanjawan 2024 iaitu Kerian Integrated Industrial Park, sebagai Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park. Ianya diharap akan menjadi pencetus kepada peralihan kepada tenaga boleh diperbaharui secara sepenuhnya oleh industri-industri yang bakal dibangunkan di taman perindustrian tersebut.

Mesyuarat juga membincangkan kepentingan industri semikonduktor yang menyumbang kepada 7.1% daripada Keluaran Dalam Negeri Kasar (KDNK) negara. Sehubungan itu, diputuskan penubuhan National Semiconductor Strategic Task Force (NSSTF) sebagai satu platform khusus untuk membangunkan ekosistem semikonduktor dan menarik pelaburan strategik dalam sektor ini.

Kesemua usaha ini adalah langkah-langkah dalam memastikan pelaksanaan pelaburan ke dalam negara akan mencapai objektif Ekonomi MADANI, termasuk meletakkan Malaysia pada kedudukan 30 teratas dari segi ekonomi terbesar dunia, dan 12 teratas dari segi daya saing global dalam tempoh 10 tahun.

For keen market observers, Minetech Resources Bhd (7219) is definitely a stock to watch for the year 2024, as the stock had soared by 190% for the past year.

Notably, the company had seen an emergence of a new substantial shareholder, Encik Abang Abdillah Izzarim Bin Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari, which had acquired approximately 240 million shares of the company, amounting to a total 15.58% of the total number of shares.

Interestingly, a substantial shareholder of the company which had been “questioned” had exited his 245 million shares in the company. Effectively, Minetech is now in new ownership.

For those who may not know, Abang Abdillah is the son of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg or better known as Abang Jo, and effectively this week, Abang Abdillah is officially the Executive Chairman for Minetech.

What does this mean for Minetech?

‌Abang Abdillah is on the board for Berjaya Land Bhd (4219), as well as the previous Chairman for Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (9237), which shows how far SCIB’s share price went after Abang Abdillah emerged as the board member.

‌For your information, Abang Abdillah did not acquire any shares of SCIB during his tenure. Perhaps this is something different for Minetech? And maybe, he might increase his stakes further?

Could this mean more upside for Minetech?

‌Based on the past track record of Abang Abdillah, this is highly plausible. With his strong connection over the Sarawak region, he should be able to bring great opportunities to Minetech in the future, in which the fundamentals of Minetech would be improved.

‌And with all the stars aligned now, would Minetech be the “starting point” of Abang Abdillah’s empire in the corporate world?
