ALOR SETAR: Oon Yik Yoon had led a simple and peaceful life until her passing.

To those who knew her, she was more than just a friend.

Tan Sri Chor Chee Heung described his late mother as someone who was kind, loving and always ready to offer help to anyone.

“She had a sweet personality and easily made friends with people she knew.

“My mum’s demise will surely be felt by everyone in the family and outside who knew her in Alor Setar.

“Her influence on her children and grandchildren is undeniable, and it’s like she helped shape the person they are today.

“There will never be enough words to sum up my mum,” said the Star Media Group (SMG) independent non-executive director and chairman.

Oon passed away peacefully last Friday. She was 92.

Chor said his father and mother were very close, and coincidentally, both had died on the same date in the Chinese calendar.

“Her love for my father was so true and deep, so much so that their deaths fell on the same day – the 11th day of the third month in the lunar calendar,” he said.

Speaking about their beloved grandmother, Fay, 38, and Freddy, 31, said Oon was a beacon of joy, elegance and love.

“Her vibrant spirit filled every moment with laughter and warmth, while her grace and generosity left an everlasting impression on our hearts.

“In honouring her memory, we pay tribute to the beautiful soul who taught us to embrace life with zest, carry ourselves with elegance, and love unconditionally,” they shared.

More than 100 wreaths with condolences were received by the family as many came to pay their last respects.

The wreaths included those from MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and the MCA central committee, Berjaya Corp Bhd founder and adviser Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun and family, Bernama chairman and Star Media Group adviser Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai and family, former MCA deputy president Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy and Tan Sri Lau Kuan Kam (from PA Resources Berhad), Triterra Metropolis Sdn Bhd joint chairman Datuk Seri Michael Yam and family, TJ Group’s Datuk Derren Teoh and Datuk Shaun Chong, and past national and state MCA leaders.

Present to offer their condolences yesterday were SMG client brand marketing (bureaus) general manager Simone Liong and senior news editor Alex Teng.

On Sunday, SMG chief executive officer Chan Seng Fatt and chief revenue officer Lydia Wang also paid their last respects at the funeral wake.

Besides Chor, the mother of five leaves behind three other children – Swee Foon, Swee Nee and Swee Tyng. Another of her sons, Chee Fooi, passed away last year.

She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The cortege will leave the house at 53-C Jalan Ambar, Telok Wanjah, Alor Setar at 11am today for burial at the Nian En Memorial Park, Pokok Sena, Kedah.
