KUALA KUBU BARU: Pas has reminded its members in the Kuala Kubu Baharu constituency to fulfill their voting responsibilities in the by-election this Saturday.

Pas secretary general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan described it as haram (forbidden) if registered party members do not go out to vote.

However, he emphasised that this was not a fatwa but rather a directive for Pas members to vote in the area to ensure the victory of Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Khairul Azhari Saut.

"I urge my friends from Pas, it is haram for Pas members if they do not come out to vote in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

"If Tok Guru (Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang) says (voting is) Fardhu Ain (obligatory), it's the same as haram if we don't do it. It's not a fatwa, but our affirmation.

"To vote, make sure we, our families, friends, and neighbors vote for candidate number one, Khairul Azhari Saut," he said while speaking at a Ceramah Perdana Bersama with PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at Taman Tanjak here last night.

Takiyuddin said Pas members outside the area should try their best to return to vote, and his party would assist them.

"The directive to vote is clearly stated in the Pas Constitution and must be complied with.

"The constitution itself contains directives from the party that must be obeyed.

"Failure to comply with a directive can result in disciplinary action," he said.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election will see a four-cornered contest between candidates from Pakatan Harapan (PH), PN, Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM), and an Independent candidate.

The by-election is being held following the death of DAP incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.

The constiuents for the Kuala Kubu Bharu by-election consist of 40,226 individuals, comprising 39,362 regular voters, 625 police personnel, 238 military personnel and spouses, and one absentee voter overseas.
