In a review, Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) Research said an inventory replenishment cycle has commenced as gloves amassed during the pandemic are believed to be near depletion.

Top Glove has indicated a jump in customer orders with about 2.2 billion pieces of glove orders per month - representing full plant utilisation for NGC 1.0 - from March onwards as compared to about 1.9 billion in 4QFY24.

Given the rising demand, HLIB said it expects glove makers' customers to be more willing to accept higher average selling prices (ASP) in 1QFY25 to allow them to pass on higher raw material and natural gas prices.

The research firm also expects potential trade diversion from the US as a result of US FDA import alert issues and higher import tariffs in 2026.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia-listed rubber glove counters got a huge boost yesterday, following the United States slapping steep tariff increases on China imports.

Tariffs on rubber medical and surgical gloves into the United States from China are set to more than triple from 7.5% to 25% in 2026.

Strong gains were seen in key glove counters including Hartalega Holdings Bhd that gained 86 sen to RM3.82, Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd which added 36 sen to RM2.74, Top Glove Corp Bhd which jumped 30 sen to RM1.26 and Supermax Corp Bhd that surged 21.5 sen to RM1.08.

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 12): Supermax Corp Bhd announced that its first glove manufacturing facility in the US is nearing completion, with the group having fulfilled and complied with various regulatory requirements, including permits, to operate the plant in Brazoria County, Texas.

“Supermax’s American and Malaysian teams have been working very hard to manage the setting-up of the US operations and we are pleased to announce that construction of our first manufacturing facility will be substantially completed before the end of December 2023. The next stage will involve the installation of various manufacturing equipment including AI, automation and robotics facilities," said Supermax executive chairman Datuk Seri Stanley Thai in a statement that was issued following the group's annual general meeting on Friday.
