https://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2024/05/01/reeling-in-reluctant-retailers
“Retailers are attracted by a ‘hot’ market but interest on Bursa has mainly been in big-cap stocks, which local institutional investors were buying due to a more positive outlook for the local market following the politically stable environment, higher investments and policy direction. “This has helped the benchmark index rise to a two-year high.
“Retailers are probably waiting for more certainty on a continuation of the trend before returning, but it could be a case when they might get hit by some profit-taking instead,” he said.

@stkoay ASN withdrawal online transfer takes how long? I redeemed yesterday abd they said funds transfer by yesterday but so far nothing. how long did your took?

Fund managers are very smart.
They know that punters have very limited bullets, so they go to the rich man's darlings.
....the heavyweights esp. the banks, that's where the money is and will continue to be.
Banks also got different types, some attracts long term funds due to its' high yield....
....while some attracts punters going for speculative play hoping for capital gain.
Few years back, I remember someone commented that MBB is only good for its' dividend while the "other one" is better at providing capital gain.
Now, it turned out that MBB is not only good for its' dividend but also its' capital gain.
The "other one" not only gave much lower dividend but also capital loss....its' current price is off 60+ sen from it's recent high 2 years ago.

Comparing these two, it turned out that rich uncles and aunties are smarter than the old towkay and towkay so.....lol haha :p

Standard Chartered
posted on Thursday a 5.5% rise in its first-quarter pretax profit, beating estimates, as higher interest rates bolstered earnings at the emerging markets-focused lender.
StanChart, which earns most of its revenue in Asia, said statutory pretax profit in the quarter was $1.91 billion. That compared with $1.81 billion a year earlier and the $1.39 billion average of 13 analyst estimates compiled by the bank.

Investors scour the globe for shelter as Wall Street shakes.
Global investors are eyeing European and emerging market assets to protect themselves from further turbulence in US stocks and bonds as stubborn inflation causes bets on the timing of Federal Reserve (Fed) interest rate cuts to be revised.
"Diversification will be a lot more important going forward,"
Investors said the Stoxx appealed because it is stacked with companies in so-called value sectors such as banking and energy which benefit from steady global growth but tend not to suffer when borrowing costs rise.
The general macro outlook is supportive for a cheap, cyclical value market."

While I'm currently holding Maybank (and my 2nd biggest holding after United Plantation), I'm hesitating whether I should shift some to CIMB.
CIMB pros - more regional exposure
CIMB cons - no insurer
Maybank pros - full-fledged FinCo, having everything under its wings. Everywhere in Malaysia
Maybank cons - upside seem limited from here
5 days ago
But being everywhere in Malaysia also means higher overheads in maintaining less than optimal branches/outlets. Comments?
@Pinky, CIMB is currently cheaper than MBB, lower PE n PB, but its dividend yield is also slightly lower. It seems to have better growth potential. Its CASA is growing stronger than MBB and is expecting NIM growth of about 5 basis point while MBB is expecting a flat or slightly lower NIM for this year
5 days ago
CIMB has more risky loan than Maybank. Any economic downturn, it will be hit by more bad debt than maybank (eg during covid pandemic).

Yes, one for stability and high yield...
...the other for potential strong capital gain....

I have AmBank, CIMB and Maybank now.
Only AmBank is seriously undervalued. Maybank and CIMB...will only buy when got sale or when I cash-rich until nowhere else to put.

@jeffchan1901
CIMB - EPS 65.46 sen - NTA 6.4066 - Dividend 36 + (special) 7 sen.......PE 10.13
MBB - EPS 77.55 sen - NTA 7.8474 - Dividend 60 sen........PE 12.62
Do the Maths, even price is high, it is still not expensive (comparable with the top 2 valuation)
Even PBB has dropped to current 4.10, its' PE is still 12 times, Dividend yield only 4.62% and its' NTA only 2.82.
So, high price is expensive or low price is cheap??
haha :p

African and Middle Eastern Nations Withdraw Gold Reserves Amid American Economic Concerns
ByJillian Bennett
APR 24, 2024
In a move reflecting growing concerns over the stability of the American economy, several African and Middle Eastern nations have begun withdrawing their gold reserves from the United States in recent months. This trend marks a significant shift in global economic dynamics and underscores the increasing skepticism among nations regarding the traditional safe haven status of the US dollar and American financial institutions.
The decision to repatriate gold reserves is not merely symbolic; it reflects a deeper unease among these nations about the trajectory of the American economy. Among the countries taking such actions are Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, Algeria, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, each representing crucial regions in Africa and the Middle East. Their actions are prompting questions about the future of the US dollar as the world’s primary reserve currency.

Look at the latest Cost to Income Ratio (CIR) of the 6 blue chip banks.
1) AMBANK = 43.8%
2) CIMB = 46.9%
3) HLBANK = 39.7%
4) MAYBANK = 47.8%
5) PBBANK = 33.7%
6) RHBBANK = 47.5%
PBBANK is really no joke, it is so well managed, its CIR is even lower than DBS's 37.0%,
No wonder it is trading at the highest Price / Book ratio among the 6 banks.
HLBANK is also not bad, but the mother company HLFG is so cheap due to Conglomerate Discount, so I prefer HLFG over HLBANK / PBBANK.
But MAYBANK is the "dragon head" among the local banks, and with high Dividend Yield.
So must invest in MAYBANK too.

https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/business/2024/05/06/bursa-bounces-to-52-week-high-amid-upbeat-regional-trend/
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng said he expects buying activities to continue with the upswing in investor sentiment, supported by a steady and strong inflow of foreign funds into the region.
“The increasing daily trading volume signifies a growing appetite for the market and the benchmark index is charging towards the 1,600 psychological level.
Echoing the sentiment, UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors’ designated portfolio manager and head of wealth, research and advisory, Sedek Jantan also said the index may continue its upward trajectory, potentially breaching the psychological barrier of 1,600.
“The KLCI has not yet reached overbought levels, indicating the market is not excessively heated, and there is room for further ascent,” he said.
