Former MP Abdul Aziz Returns to Destini as Independent Director

KUALA LUMPUR (July 5): Engineering solutions provider Destini Bhd has appointed Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir as an independent and non-executive director, effective Wednesday (July 5).

Abdul Aziz, 60, previously held the same position at Destini from Aug 30, 2017 until May 18, 2018, according to the company’s filing.

The Umno politician was the member of parliament (MP) for Kulim-Bandar Bahru from 2013 to 2018, after having earlier served as a one-term Kedah State Legislative assemblyman for Kuala Ketil.

Abdul Aziz is currently a non-independent and non-executive chairman of Priceworth International Bhd.

He had served on several boards of government investment companies and agencies, namely Universiti Utara Malaysia, Tourism Malaysia, Rangkaian Hotel Seri Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Kedah State Economic Development Corp and Suria Strategic Energy Resources Sdn Bhd.

“Formerly, he served as a board member of several public-listed companies, namely Kretam Holdings Bhd, Safeguard Corp Bhd, Utusan (Melayu) Malaysia Bhd and TH Heavy Engineering Bhd,” said Destini.

Shares in Destini finished half a sen or 5.26% lower at nine sen on Wednesday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM149.72 million.
