RABAT, May 20 -- Morocco's consumer price index (CPI) rose 4.4 percent in April from a year earlier, the High Commission for Planning (HCP) said Friday.

The core CPI, which excludes energy and subsidized food products, increased by 0.8 percent month on month, it added.

Food prices rose by 3 percent, while non-food prices 0.9 percent on a month-on-month basis, the state planning agency said.

The CPI increase was driven mainly by higher cost of energy, prices of fruits and fisheries, according to HCP.
