KUALA LUMPUR: The resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister yesterday is not the end of political uncertainties in the country, said Gerakan.

Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau said the question of who would be Muhyiddin's successor would come with some political friction.

"WIth the departure of Muhyiddin and his cabinet, who will be our new prime minister? After 'working together' to overthrow Muhyiddin, I believe these political parties will not be satisfied with this goal alone.

"The first half of this political battle has just ended and the second half is about to begin. Each party leader has his own dream of becoming prime minister.

"But in the end, if there is no compromise and no consensus, the country will be plunged into a period of anarchy and our people will hurt the most."

Lau also thanked Muhyiddin for his efforts in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic from almost the first day of his term in office.

While doing so, he said Muhyiddin had to face constant invocations and attacks from political opponents.

"For a country with little experience in fighting an epidemic like us, I cannot say he has the best record.

"But I believe we will gradually see the changes brought about by the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme and the National Recovery Plan he had proposed in the near future.

"We are here to thank him sincerely for his contribution to Malaysia," said Lau.
