Economy Ministry expresses interest in Media Prima cooperation to develop 'innovative society'

PUTRAJAYA: The government's cooperation with media houses, including with the Media Prima Group, can play a large role in developing an innovative society as part of the aspiration to transition Malaysia into a high value economy.

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said he has some ideas which will be discussed at length with Media Prima.

Rafizi, who received a courtesy visit from the Media Prima senior management, led by Media Prima Group chairman Datuk Seri (Dr) Syed Hussian Aljunid at his office today, also discussed several national economic agenda issues.

"We discussed several national economic agenda issues. This included the role we can play at the ministry level and taken up by Media Prima, to shape an innovative society and elevate the country into a high value economy.

"This is a culture we need to inculcate within society," he said after the visit.

Also present were New Straits Times Press Bhd group managing editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman, who is also Berita Harian group editor; Media Prima Television Networks and Primeworks Studios chief executive officer Datuk Khairul Anwar Salleh; Media Prima Omnia chief operating officer Mohd Efendi Omar; and, group corporate communications general manager Azlan Abdul Aziz.

Rafizi said they also discussed several economic perspectives involving the people.

He said media entities such as Media Prima play a significant role in ensuring that the government, people as well as industries move in the same direction.

Meanwhile, Zaini said the official visit, among others, also discussed how Media Prima can foster closer cooperation with the Economy Ministry in a mutually beneficial manner.

"We received very positive feedback from the ministry on how we can help them fulfill or execute their programmes.

"Hopefully, we will have more discussions to fine tune the details of the programmes what will involve both the Economy Ministry and Media Prima," he said.

Zaini said Rafizi also expressed an interest in taking up Media Prima's invitation to tour the group's operations.
