Putrajaya (Nov 29): The allowance for the manager and assistant manager of the National Digital Economy Centre (PEDi) will be increased by RM500 starting from January 2024, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the 2023 PEDi Madani Conference.

The 2023 PEDi Madani conference brings together managers and entrepreneurs nationwide to share their expertise and experiences in PEDi (Pusat Ekonomi Digital Keluarga Malaysia) centres around the country.

The allowance for managers will be increased to RM2,500 from RM2,000, whereas the allowance for assistance managers will be increased to RM2,000 from RM1,500.

As a homegrown Malaysian company, YTL Cement has been very much a part of the nation’s development. Being a leader in the building materials industry, its commitment extends beyond business to making a positive and lasting impact on the communities where it operates.

The announcement was made in view of the dedication PEDi managers have shown in empowering local communities. PEDi commenced in 2007 and is fully funded by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. It aims to empower the local community by providing collective internet access services in underserved areas and enhanced valued-added services.

Anwar mentioned that every PEDi will be monitored and must submit reports so that the future managers of PEDi can comprise a wider group of talent, especially from the younger generation.

“My hope, from this conference, is that the telecommunication companies will continue to be committed in working with PEDi to help increase expertise and skill specialisation that is still evidently lacking in the country,” said Anwar.

He also urged telecommunication companies to invest more in skills training for the adoption of new technologies.
