Gov’t scraps PJD link project following concessionaire’s failure to meet conditions

THE government has decided to halt the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) project, citing the concessionaire’s inability to fulfil key conditions set by the authorities.
Unity government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil made this announcement, noting that the decision was prompted by the concessionaire’s failure to meet six out of the eleven conditions stipulated by Putrajaya.
“The Cabinet has decided not to hold further discussions with PJD Link. They asked for an extension to meet a number of the conditions but this was rejected by the government,” he said at a press conference.
“The public works department (JKR) will issue a statement on the matter.”
The proposed PJD Link aimed to establish a vital connection between the northern and southern regions of Petaling Jaya traversing through key areas such as Petaling Jaya Utara, Bandar Utama, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Petaling Jaya city center, Taman Datuk Harun, Taman Medan Baru, Taman Sri Manja, Bandar Kinrara and Bukit Jalil Technology Park.
Originally greenlit in principle by the Cabinet in November 2017, the PJD Link project encountered hurdles throughout its progression. Although the state government granted preliminary approval in September 2020, subject to the submission and assessment of impact reports, the project faced setbacks during this phase.
Last year, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari made a decisive move to scrap the PJD Link project altogether.
“The impact assessment reports submitted by the developer, particularly the social impact assessment report, were not satisfactory and did not meet certain conditions set by the state government.”
Subsequently, Amirudin called for a renegotiation of the project’s alignment with the federal government, urging the developer to revisit its plans.
Selangor’s infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Izham Hashim echoed this sentiment, stressing the need for an improved alignment for the highway.
“The social impact assessment report revealed that nearly 50% of complaints were received from residents in Petaling Jaya though residents in Puchong seemed to be agreeable to the project.
