KUALA LUMPUR: The inaugural Kesuma Green Skills Fair is offering more than 3,000 green jobs for Malaysians, says Human Resource Minister Steven Sim.

He said at the fair's launch here on Thursday (April 25) that the green economy such as environmental care and sustainability are becoming fundamental to society.

These changes will generate more job opportunities, he said while highlighting plans to boost Malaysia's green economy.

"The National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) aims to attract potential investment ranging up to RM1.3 trillion by 2050 and generate 310,000 jobs in the green economy," he said.

In Budget 2024, RM230bil was allocated for the sustainability-related development agenda: RM30bil being fiscal injection from the government, and RM200bil being the commitment from the private sector.

"All this will eventually translate to jobs for Malaysians," Sim said.

He added that these are quality high-paying jobs, with positions available at the fair offering monthly salaries ranging from RM3,000 to RM16,000.

In Malaysia, he added. a plethora of green jobs is steadily becoming available.

According to data from myFuture jobs last year, there were 30,000 green jobs available, he said.

"As of April this year, we already have 4,000 green jobs up for grabs," he dded.

The fair, organised by TalentCorp and the Social Security Organisation (Socso), promotes public awareness and understanding of green skills, focusing on their importance and emerging opportunities within the green economy.

It was done in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and held in conjunction with the Asean Green Jobs Forum and the MYFutureJobs Green Job Fair.

Jobseekers and those interested to enhance their skills may visit the fair at the Avenue K mall here which is on until Saturday (April 27).

Meanwhile, Sim also revealed the ministry's theme for Labour Day (May 1) this year.

"Our primary focus and theme is 'jobs jobs jobs' and 'skills skills skills'," he said.

There would also be another event, MYFutureJobs Keuma Madani Job Fair in conjunction with Labour Day 2024, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) and Perkeso venues on April 30 and May 1.
