Mr. Choi held a First Class Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Malaya
Working Experience
Mr. Choi had vast experience in banking and other financial services and in general management derived from appointments in the public sector and in public companies in the private sector. After serving eight years as a teacher and three years in the Malayan Civil Service (now known as the Administrative and Diplomatic Service), he joined the then newly established Bank Negara Malaysia where he served from December 1958 to October 1972 in various positions including that of Deputy Governor for more than six years. From November 1972 to October 1975 he was an Executive Director of the World Bank representing Malaysia and other countries in the South East Asia Voting Group. He then assumed a senior executive position and later that of the General Manager in the Malaysia Division of Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited from 1976 to 1986. He was a Director of The Pacific Bank Berhad from 1976 and became its Chairman from March 1988 to September 1994. Prior to his re-appointment as the Chairman of The Pacific Bank Berhad (now known as PacificMas Berhad) on 2 October 1997, he was the Chairman of OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad. He remained Chairman of PacificMas Berhad and of several of its subsidiaries until his retirement from that Group on 26 June 2008. He was a Director of United Malacca Berhad from 1979 and became its Chairman and Executive Director from 1988 to July 2011.
