His career includes holding various prominent positions in the Malaysian Government that spanned a period of 40 years. He was both the former Secretary General of the Barisan Nasional (ruling government coalition) from 1993 to 2003 and UMNO between 1988 and 1996, and was also a Member of Parliament for Pulai for 30 years up to 1999. Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohamed Bin Rahmat held the position as Minister of Information from 1978 to 1982 and from 1988 to 1999. The other significant positions held during his tenure with the Government include the Political Secretary for Transport, the Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Education, the Deputy Minister of Finance, the Deputy Minister of Public Enterprise and the ambassador of Malaysia to Indonesia.
