Y. Bhg. Dato' Kalsom binti Abd. Rahman spent more than 33 years in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in various capacities both at headquarter and its overseas offices as well as being the Chief Executive Officer of the Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation (SMIDEC) (now known as SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp.)) and as Deputy Secretary-General (Industry) of MITI before she retired in 2004. Thereafter, she became the Chairman of SMIDEC until October 2006. Dato Kalsom was also the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Invest-In-Penang Berhad, a state government agency responsible for the promotion of investments, technology and business into Penang, a position she held until 2008. Dato' Kalsom has been a nominee director of the Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) group of companies since 2004. With the reorganisation and restructuring of the PNB group in 2017, Dato Kalsom retired from two of its subsidiaries namely, MIDF Property Berhad and Amanah Scots Property (KL) Sdn Bhd and was appointed a Director of PNB Commercial Sdn Berhad in July 2017. She was also a Director of Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad and certain of its subsidiaries from 2001 to March 2016 and a Director of MISC Berhad, a public listed company from 2004 to April 2017. Dato' Kalsom is also a Director of Bermaz Auto Berhad, a public listed company and Tashin Holdings Berhad, a public company.
