Working Experience
Datuk (Prof.) Abdul Rahman Abdullah is currently the Chief Executive of the Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia. He has been the driving force behind the setting up of the Board. Prior to this appointment, he was the Deputy Director General II of the Public Works Department of Malaysia. Among others, he has also served as the Director of Quantity Surveying and Contract Division at the Public Works Department. Datuk (Prof.) Abdul Rahman has spent more of his career with the Public Works Department and has contributed much to the local construction industry, especially on matters related to project management and contractual arrangement for public sector projects. After qualifying with a Diploma in Quantity Surveying from Thames Polytechnic, London in 1973, he pursued an M.Sc in Construction Management at Heriot-Watt University , Scotland. He also holds fellowships with The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (UK) and the Institute of Surveyors Malaysia, as well as Professional Membership with The Chartered Institute of Building of Malaysia (MCIOB). He is also well acknowledged in the academic circle and sits as external examiner with Uitm, UTM and USM which are institutes of higher learning in Malaysia. In 1992, he was accorded an Honourary professor by the University Teknologi Malaysia. Among other appointments, he was the President of the Institute of Surveyors, Malaysia, Chairman of the Technical Committee on the Development of the Professional Institute for Baitulmal Wilayah Persekutuan and the President of the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia. His illustrious service with the Public Works Department has seen him attending various courses and seminars, and delivering numerous working papers at the national and international levels on issues relating to contract procedures and management, cost control as well as project implementation and monitoring. For his contribution to the nation, he has been awarded the Ahli Mangku Negara (AMN) in 1980, the Ahli Setia Mahkota Terengganu (SMT), the Johan Setia Mahkota (JSM) in 1989, the Dato' Paduka Mahkota Terengganu (DPMT) in 1994 and the Datuk Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) in 2001. After retiring as Chief Executive of CIDB in November 2002, he has been appointed as Chairman of CIDB from 1 December 2002
