Genting has 35b in cash. Losing 1-3 billion is small price to pay while it took the opportunity to renew its staff force with a lower fixed cost and most likely younger and more productive team. It needs to keep the share price high to ward off corporate predators. Dividend is paid to ensure key stakeholders provide business continuity to Genting. So hold on and take your dividend which at more than 4%, much better than FD rates.

In tough economic times, prudent to stick with companies with proven management track record, positive operational cash flow, strong balance sheet and low debt to equity ratio. At the current price, genm gives 6.1% dividend yield, much better than FD rates. You'll have to look at much more expensive counters like Maybank to get this yield. If the price falls further, What is the logical thing to do? Capital gains will only come in the medium term, after Tun M and perhaps Trump has stepped down. With BNM expected to cut interest rate by end of this year, FD interest won't even keep up with inflation. With the genm bonus of having a monopolistic market here plus theme park coming, r u waiting for price to go up ( thus suffering lower dividend yield) before buying?
