KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) has approved grants worth RM391.9mil under the Domestic Investment Strategic Fund to 72 companies and more are under evaluation.

MIDA’s new chief executive officer Datuk Azman Mahmud said the projects, which were in various stages of implementation, were in electrical and electronics, machinery and advanced engineering industries as well as research and development.

“The response is encouraging. I think the take-up rate will be even better before the fund’s tenure ends by end-2015,” he told Bernama.

The fund was set up by the Government under the 10th Malaysia Plan to accelerate the participation of Malaysian-owned companies in the global supply chain, namely, high value-added, high-technology, knowledge-intensive and innovation-based industries. The package of assistance will be granted under the Customised Incentive Scheme which is based on the requests of the companies and the merits of each case.

Azman said domestic investments would assume an important role in the country’s economic growth. – Bernama
